Thioredoxin Reductase as a Target for Antibacterial Gold Compounds in Burkholderia cenocepacia: Disclosing the Molecular Basis of Enzyme Inhibition

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 13, 14 July 2026.
The molecular basis of thioredoxin reductase inhibition by antibacterial gold(I) compounds is disclosed. X‐ray crystallography and high‐resolution ESI‐MS reveal selective gold coordination to catalytically relevant cysteine residues of Bc‐TrxR, leading to stable protein–gold adducts and disruption of enzyme redox activity.

Horizontal Gene Transfer and Genome Rearrangements Shape Bacterial Adaptation for Bioremediation

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2026.
Exposure to xenobiotics triggers genome evolution and horizontal gene transfer (HGT), driving the acquisition of novel catabolic functions. These genomic adaptations provide a competitive fitness advantage that reshapes microbial community structure and enhances biodegradation impact.

Effect of Topical Application of Antimicrobial Peptide PL‐5 (Peceleganan) Spray on Mild to Moderate Infection of Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Multicenter, Randomized, Double‐Blinded, Placebo‐Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes, Volume 18, Issue 7, July 2026.
Topical PL‐5 spray improves clinical outcomes in mild‐to‐moderate infected diabetic foot ulcers and achieves superior pathogen clearance among drug‐resistant infection subgroups. It represents a promising low‐resistance topical option for managing mild to moderate DFU infections.

Serious Bacterial Infections in Hospitalized Neonates in Eastern Ethiopia: Investigating the Emerging Pathogen Pantoea dispersa Compared With Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 31, Issue 7, Page 933-943, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Serious bacterial infections (SBIs) are major contributors to neonatal morbidity and mortality in low‐income countries. We describe the aetiology and risk factors for neonatal bacteraemia and in‐hospital mortality in eastern Ethiopia, focusing on Pantoea dispersa, a rarely studied pathogen, and Klebsiella pneumoniae .
