Experimental research on porous media combustion of SOFC exhaust gas

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2020
The exhaust gas temperature of SOFC is as high as 600–1000 °C and contains combustible components that can be reused. In this paper, an experimental system was set up to study the combustion characteristics of SOFC simulated exhaust gas in a porous ...

Structures of mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase reveal carrier‐domain translocation between catalytic sites

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

The Opie Recordings: What’s Left to be Heard? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This chapter presents an analysis of selected recordings from the Opie Collection of Children's Games in the National Sound Archive. It contextualises them with an account of the Opies' research approach, and identifies three themes emerging from the ...

Effect of nonuniform density structure on burn-up ratio of multi-shock-compressed DT fuel in fast ignition

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The burn characteristics of multi-shock-compressed DT fuel under fast ignition conditions are investigated using two-dimensional burn simulations. In solid-sphere implosions, high fuel areal density can be achieved through multi-shock compression with ...

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Calculation and Analysis of B/T (Burning and/or Transmutation) Rate of Minor Actinides and Plutonium Performed by Fast B/T Reactor

open access: yesAtom Indonesia, 2006
Calculation and analysis of B/T (Burning and/or Transmutation) rate of MA (minor actinides) and Pu (Plutonium) has been performed in fast B/T reactor. The study was based on the assumption that the spectrum shift of neutron flux to higher side of neutron

Five‐Year Outcomes of Laparoscopic Sphincter‐Preserving Surgery for Rectal Cancer: A Prospective Study in Elderly Vietnamese Patients

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This prospective study demonstrates that laparoscopic sphincter‐preserving surgery is feasible for elderly patients. While overall survival reaches 70% at 5 years, advanced T‐stage and the omission of neoadjuvant therapy significantly drive recurrence, highlighting the need for personalized geriatric protocols despite logistical challenges.

Ofatumumab in Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody–Associated Disease: A Comparison With Rituximab

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ofatumumab in patients with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody–associated disease (MOGAD), and compare it with rituximab. Methods We conducted a single–center, observational study including 22 MOGAD patients treated with ofatumumab and 21 treated with rituximab.

An analytical model linking tritium breeding, tritium-lean startup and fusion power deployment

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
Fusion reactors burn tritium, which they must self-generate in the breeding blanket. This must have a tritium breeding ratio (TBR) slightly larger than unity to compensate for small losses and natural decay.

Design Study of 200MWth Gas Cooled Fast Reactor with Nitride (UN-PuN) Fuel Long Life without Refueling

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Design study of 200 MWth Gas Cooled Fast Reactor with UN-PuN fuel long life without refueling has been done. GFR is one type reactor in Generation IV reactor system. It uses helium coolant and fast neutron spectrum. Helium is chemical inert, single phase
