Emigration of B cells from chicken bursa of Fabricius
European Journal of Immunology, 1989AbstractThe extent of emigration of cells from the bursa of Fabricius to the periphery was estimated. Per anum application of fluorescein isothiocyanate to label bursal cells in situ was used. Migrant cells can be visualized on frozen sections or cell suspensions of peripheral organs by their fluorescence. The data show that at 2–3 weeks after hatching

Sex steroid sensitivity of developing bursa of Fabricius.
The International Journal of Developmental Biology, 1989Sex steroid sensitivity of the bursa of Fabricius (BF) was studied from the early embryonic time until its regression. Expression of progesterone receptor (PR) served as a dual marker: first, as a marker for progesterone sensitivity and second, as a marker for estrogen action, since it is an estrogen-induced protein.

The Bursa of Fabricius: A Central Issue
BioScience, 1970Prior to 1955-56, the function of the avian and mammalian thymus and avian bursa of Fabricius was still an enigma. At this time, we revealed that removal of the bursa would reduce or eliminate future antibody production (Glick et al., 1956). Other investigators confirmed and extended this work to include that the mammalian and avian thymus control ...

Apoptotic Cell Death in the Chicken Bursa of Fabricius
1996The bursa of Fabricius is the site of primary B cell development in birds, and has been reviewed extensively elsewhere1–3. It is productively colonized during embryonic life by a small number (

[Growth of the cloacal bursa (bursa of Fabricius) and spleen in ducks].
Anatomia, histologia, embryologia, 1999The growth in weight of both the bursa of Fabricius and the spleen was investigated in different stocks of ducks between hatching and 154 days of age. The data were analysed by fitting the Janoschek growth curve and the allometric formula. Both organs showed rapid growth to their maximum dimensions and early points of inflection.
