THE CANADIAN POLITICAL BUSINESS CYCLE

open access: yesEssays in Economic and Business History, 2000
This paper will discuss the existence of a Canadian Political Business Cycle (PBC) during the period 1946-1989. Logit analysis was used to determine if changes in the unemployment rate, growth of real GNE and the rate of inflation are significantly ...

Connectedness among Northeast Asian Housing Markets and Business Cycles

open access: yesEast Asian Economic Review, 2020
This paper investigates the connectedness among housing markets using the methodology developed in Diebold and Yilmaz (2014, 2016). In particular, we examine the international linkages among housing markets in Northeast Asian countries: namely, China ...

Skyscrapers and Business Cycles

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2005
The skyscraper index, created by economist Andrew Lawrence shows a correlation between the construction of the world’s tallest building and the business cycle. Is this just a coincidence, or perhaps do skyscrapers cause business cycles? A theoretical foundation of “Cantillon effects” for the skyscraper index is provided here showing how the basic ...

Black Hole Quencher‐Enhanced Plasmonic Photothermal Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers have developed a universal method to boost plasmonic photothermal conversion by attaching black hole quencher (BHQ) molecules to matched metal nanostructures. This hybrid approach increases efficiency by roughly threefold, reaching up to 69.1% in the near‐infrared‐II window.

The Effects of Fiscal Policy on Macroeconomic Activities: Evidence from Iran [PDF]

open access: yesFaslnāmah-i Pizhūhish/Nāmah-i Iqtisādī, 2017
This study investigates how fiscal policy shocks affect macroeconomic activities in an oil exporting economy using a real business cycle model (RBC).

Rocket‐Inspired Sequentially Targeted Nanotherapeutics for Mitochondrial Regulation and Inflammatory Reprogramming in Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel neutrophil‐hitchhiking, rocket‐inspired nanoplatform is developed to cross the blood‐brain barrier for sequential, spatiotemporal drug delivery. By responsive surface transformation in the ischemic penumbra, it precisely targets mitochondria to suppress Drp1‐mediated fission.

Unemployment and Business Cycles [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Finance Discussion Papers, 2013
We develop and estimate a general equilibrium model that accounts for key business cycle properties of macroeconomic aggregates, including labor market variables. In sharp contrast to leading New Keynesian models, wages are not subject to exogenous nominal rigidities.

Machine Learning‐Assisted Design and Performance Prediction of a Compact Dual‐Band Polarization‐Insensitive THz Metamaterial Absorber for Skin‐Cancer‐Related Refractive‐Index Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A compact QASRR‐based THz metamaterial absorber enables polarization‐insensitive dual‐band absorption and skin‐cancer‐related refractive‐index sensing through measurable resonance shifts. Field, surface‐current, and circuit analyses clarify the dual‐resonance mechanism, while StackNet‐assisted prediction accurately estimates the simulated absorption ...

Agency business cycles

open access: yesTheoretical Economics, 2015
We develop a theory of endogenous and stochastic fluctuations in economic activity. Individual firms choose to randomize over firing or keeping workers who performed poorly in the past to give them an ex ante incentive to exert effort. Different firms choose to correlate the outcome of their randomization to reduce the probability with which they fire ...

Rare‐Earth Yttrium Doping Advances High‐Performance AgSbTe2 Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Y‐doped AgSbTe2 achieves band and microstructure co‐optimization, with coherent Y‐Ag2Te interfaces enhancing phonon scattering and reducing lattice thermal conductivity to 0.26 W m−1 K−1. Combined with valence‐band broadening and increased carrier concentration, this yields ZT ≈ 2 at 623 K, average ZT = 1.5, and 7.3 % conversion efficiency of a single ...
