Acetylcholinesterase and Butyrylcholinesterase of Cat
1998Domestic cat (Felis domesticus) pituitary cDNA and leukocyte genomic DNA were amplified by PCR and sequenced for the protein coding regions of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE). ~2 kb of BCHE cDNA and ~4 kb of the ACHE gene with introns were sequenced. Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris) pituitary cDNA was sequenced for BCHE.

Although it is usually considered in conjunction with acetylcholinesterase (AChE), BChE is the product of a different gene, has a much more restricted distribution in the mammalian brain and has no major role in conventional cholinergic neurotransmission.
