BUXUS SEMPERVIRENS (Buxaceae) of Turkish origin has yielded a new steroidal alkaloid, (-)-( Z)-buxenone ( 1) along with its known isomer (-)-( E)-buxenone ( 2). The plant also yielded 4',5-dihydroxy-3,3',6,7-tetramethoxyflavone ( 3) and artemetin (5-hydroxy-3,3',4',6,7-pentamethoxyflavone) ( 4).

WOOD ANATOMY OF BUXUS MADAGASCARICA BAILL.

SUMMARY The secondary xylem of Buxus madagascarica Baill. subsp. xerophila H. Perr., endemic to Madagascar, is described. A comparison has been made between the wood anatomy of this species and that of several other representatives of the genus Buxus together with some Notobuxus species studied by Carlquist (1982) and Record & Garratt (1925).
