Effect of the colour of pitfall traps on their capture efficiency of carabid beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae), spiders (Araneae) and other arthropods

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2010
Pitfall trapping is one of the most commonly used methods of sampling ground-dwelling arthropods. There are many studies on the effect of design of pitfall traps on their capture efficiency but, so far, none on the influence of the colour of the pitfall ...

A fauna acompanhante de camarāo no Banco de Sofala: análise preliminar [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
An estimation of the total industrial catch of the shallow water shrimp by-catch for the period 1986-1990 is presented. By-catch species compositions based on landings and onboard samples at ex-Emopesca/Beira (Marbeira) and Pescamar are also presented ...

Label‐Free Sensing of Coronaviral Sequences via Kretschmann‐Configuration Reflectance Spectroscopic Ellipsometry: Sensitivity, Specificity, and Interfacial Effects

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Spectroscopic ellipsometry in the Kretschmann‐Raether configuration (KRSE) is employed to characterize a DNA‐functionalized platform for viral sequence recognition. By merging SE with surface plasmon resonance, KRSE outperforms conventional SE, achieving nanomolar targeting through resonance wavelength shifts (δλ) measurements. Its enhanced interfacial

By-catch species susceptibilities and potential for survival in Algarve (southern Portugal) deep-water crustacean trawl fishery

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2018
Bottom trawling for crustaceans in Portuguese coastal waters is an important fishery in terms of revenue, despite its negative impacts on deep-sea ecosystems.

Terahertz Volume Plasmon‐Polariton Modulation in All‐Dielectric Hyperbolic Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
THz volume plasmon‐polariton (VPP) propagation through plasmon‐based hyperbolic metamaterials, made of alternating layers of doped and undoped III‐V semiconductors. Abstract The development of plasmonics and related applications in the terahertz range faces limitations due to the intrinsic high electron density of the standard metals.

Gill net and long-line catch comparisons in a hake fishery: the case of southern Portugal

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2002
During 1998, a study of the European hake (Merluccius merluccius) static gear fishery was undertaken in southern Portugal. This study aimed to compare long-line and gill net catches within the same area in terms of catch composition, fishing yield, by ...

Inverse‐Designed on‐Chip Terahertz Three‐Channel Mode and Wavelength Division Demultiplexer

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
An ultracompact terahertz demultiplexer is developed using a hybrid inverse design that combines genetic algorithms with topology optimization. The device enables simultaneous mode‐ and wavelength‐division multiplexing within a footprint smaller than two wavelengths.

Deep-sea sharks as by-catch of an experimental fishing survey for black scabbardfishes (Aphanopus spp.) off the Canary Islands (NE Atlantic)

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2018
The deep-sea sharks associated as by-catch of the Madeiran midwater drifting longline fishery for scabbardfishes (Aphanopus spp.) were investigated by means of an experimental survey at 800-1200 m depth within the Canary Islands Exclusive Economic Zone ...
