Effects of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and selenomethionine supplementation on physicochemical properties, oxidative stability and endogenous enzyme activities of fresh pork loin

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
This study evaluated the physicochemical properties, oxidative stability, and endogenous enzyme activities in fresh pork loin from pigs fattened by supplementation of 3 % soybean oil (control), 3 % linseed oil or 3 % linseed oil combined with 0.3 mg/kg ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Enhancing postharvest storage quality and cuticular wax composition of summer black grapes through preharvest calcium application

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
This study investigated the effects of preharvest calcium treatments at different developmental stages on the cuticular wax composition of Summer Black grapes and their correlation with fruit storage quality (4 ± 0.5 °C) and reactive oxygen species (ROS)

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Effect of soluble dietary fiber extracted from Lentinula edodes (Berk.) Pegler on lipid metabolism and liver protection in mice on high-fat diet

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
With the increasing annual production of Lentinula edodes, the residues of Lentinus edodes are mass produced and wasted every year. In order to further explore the added value and effective utilization of Lentinus edodes, we studied the lipid-lowering ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
