Enhancement of polylactic acid-based electrospun films via sugarcane bagasse nanocellulose and paeonol for sustainable preservation of red grapes

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
Petroleum-based plastics dominate the fruit packaging market, but the microplastics migration poses ecological and health risks. This study developed an active packaging by electrospun polylactic acid (PLA) with sugarcane bagasse-derived nanocellulose ...

Concentrate Apple Juice Industry: Aroma and Pomace Valuation as Food Ingredients

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Apple concentrate juice industry generates a flavored coproduct (apple aroma) recovered in the evaporation process, which is poorly valuated due to the lack of chemical characterization and standardization.

Understanding and Optimizing Li Substitution in P2‐Type Sodium Layered Oxides for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous

Bistability in feedback circuits as a byproduct of evolution of evolvability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Noisy bistable dynamics in gene regulation can underlie stochastic switching and is demonstrated to be beneficial under fluctuating environments. It is not known, however, if fluctuating selection alone can result in bistable dynamics. Using a stochastic

Deciphering Small Molecule Diffusion Parameters Across Light Responsive Polymersome Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐responsive polymersomes bearing donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASAs) enable programmable control over small‐molecule transport across synthetic membranes. By systematically varying DASA density, an optimal functionalization regime is identified that maximizes light‐gated permeability.

Effects of Adding Pregelatinized Glutinous Rice Starch on the Physicochemical Properties of Rice Flour and the Quality of Its Instant Dry Rice Noodles

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji
In order to improve the rehydration characteristics of instant dry rice noodles, the effects of adding pregelatinized glutinous rice starch (PGRS) on the gelatinization, pasting and rheological properties of rice flour and the structure, food quality and

Theoretical study on hydrogenation catalysts containing a metal hydride as additional hydrogen supply [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
A hypothetical hydrogenation catalyst consisting of porous, catalytically active particles embedded with metal hydride powder was evaluated. The metal hydride provides temporarily additional hydrogen if the mass transfer rate of the hydrogen to the ...

Understanding the Role of Superhydrophobicity and Superhydrophilicity in Salt‐Spray Corrosion of Nanosecond Pulsed Laser‐Textured AA2024 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanosecond pulse laser texturing yields superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic AA2024 surfaces. Salt‐spray tests show that periodic superhydrophobic patterns suppress pitting, whereas superhydrophilic textures enhance it, linking laser‐induced morphology, wettability, and oxide chemistry to corrosion resistance.

Health hazards associated with dietary acrylamide exposure from the biscuit diet of growing female rat pups

open access: yesFood Science and Human Wellness
Acrylamide (AA) is a harmful substance widely found in infant and child biscuits; however, the health hazards of AA, especially endogenous AA, in the biscuit matrix is poorly understood.
