Effects of removing albumins and globulins on the thermal stability, food quality and starch digestibility of α-amylase hydrolyzed rice flour

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
Instant rice flour products are usually produced by hydrolyzing rice flour using α-amylase. As albumins and globulins are major allergenic proteins in rice flour, the effects of removing albumins and globulins on the thermal stability, food quality and ...

Development and Characterization of Emulsions Containing Ground Seeds of Passiflora Species as Biobased Exfoliating Agents

open access: yesCosmetics, 2022
Ground seeds from three species of the genus Passiflora, P. ligularis, P. edulis Sims fo edulis, and P. mollissima, were obtained by extraction, drying, grinding, and sieving, and their physicochemical properties (morphology, hardness, and proximal ...

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

VALUING BYPRODUCTS

open access: yes, 2019
The value of byproducts produced by a sanitation technology can have a material impact on the technology’s economics. However, placing a value on a byproduct can be tricky. In the course of several projects, STeP and our partners have gained some experience that could be useful to others just starting out in this area.

Fusion algebra at a rational level and cohomology of nilpotent subalgebras of sl_2

open access: yes, 1993
We define and calculate the fusion algebra of WZW model at a rational level by cohomological methods. As a byproduct we obtain a cohomological characterization of admissible representations of $\widehat{\gtsl}_{2}$.Comment: 11 ...

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Graphene tests of Klein phenomena

open access: yes, 2012
Graphene is characterized by chiral electronic excitations. As such it provides a perfect testing ground for the production of Klein pairs (electron/holes).

Extending the Extensional Lambda Calculus with Surjective Pairing is Conservative [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We answer Klop and de Vrijer's question whether adding surjective-pairing axioms to the extensional lambda calculus yields a conservative extension. The answer is positive. As a byproduct we obtain a "syntactic" proof that the extensional lambda calculus

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.
