Forecasting ecological trajectories from ecological dynamic regimes to improve resilience analysis

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract The ecological dynamic regime (EDR) framework was recently proposed as an alternative to equilibrium‐based approaches for assessing ecological resilience in empirical systems, explicitly incorporating dynamic regimes as a reference for assessing the system's deviation during disturbances.

Prey Partitioning in a Diverse Carnivore Community: Implications for Reintroduced Fishers in Washington

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Using fecal DNA metabarcoding, we quantified dietary overlap among reintroduced fishers and sympatric coyotes, bobcats, and Pacific martens in Washington's North Cascades. Niche overlap was substantial for common prey but varied with body size, revealing fine‐scale resource partitioning that may limit fishers' access to energetically efficient prey ...

Determinants of Poor Health‐Related Quality of Life in Patients With Food Allergy

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Machine‐learning analysis of 502 well‐characterised food‐allergic patients was used to identify key determinants of poor FA‐HRQL, defined as FAQLQ ≥ 5. The most relevant predictors were adult age, female sex, multiple food allergies, severe reactions, need for urgent care, onset before 18 years, and longer disease duration.

ABSTRACT Background The expanding use of

Re‐thinking peripheral dysfunctions in obesity: The emerging role of sulphaceutics and sulphanutraceutics

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Obesity is a chronic, relapsing, multisystem disease in which cardiometabolic risk arises from excess adiposity and progressive dysfunction of peripheral organs, ultimately disrupting endocrine and metabolic crosstalk among tissues. Within this network, sulphur‐based biology, centred on hydrogen sulphide and related reactive sulphur species, has ...

The bread of Toledo: Prices and political economy, 1535–1800

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, EarlyView.
Abstract We study the market for common white bread in the city of Toledo through a new 266‐year‐long series of bread prices, obtained from the cash purchases and wholesale bread‐for‐wheat contracts of large institutions. Our data are strongly consistent with fragmentary evidence on retail price regulation, as well as with shorter series from other ...
