Type I interferon (IFN‐I) play a critical role in the innate immune response against viral infections. They actively participate in antiviral immunity by inducing molecular mechanisms of viral restriction and by limiting the spread of the infection, but they also orchestrate the initial phases of the adaptive immune response and influence the quality ...

An Overview on the Field of Micro‐ and Nanotechnologies for Synthetic Peptide‐Based Vaccines
The development of synthetic peptide‐based vaccines has many advantages in comparison with vaccines based on live attenuated organisms, inactivated or killed organism, or toxins. Peptide‐based vaccines cannot revert to a virulent form, allow a better conservation, and are produced more easily and safely.

Phenazine 5,10‐dioxides (PDOs) are a new class of bioreductive cytotoxins, which could act towards tumours containing hypoxic regions. The PDOs selective‐hypoxic bioreduction was probed in vitro; however, the mechanism of action has not been completely explained. Besides, PDOs in vivo antitumour activities have not been demonstrated hitherto.

Gene Therapy for HIV Infections: Intracellular Immunization
Despite significant advances in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in the past 10 years, it remains an incurable disease. The inability of traditional drug‐based therapies to inhibit HIV replication effectively for extended periods of time has stimulated intense research to develop novel approaches for this disease.

Pathogenesis of HSV and CMV Infections in Pregnancy
Human herpesvirus (HHSV) and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infections during pregnancy are a major concern of public health because of the risk for severe sequelae for the fetuses and the neonates and because primary infections, reinfections and reactivations can be asymptomatic. The risk for neonatal herpes is mostly congenital, while the risk for HCMV
