The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A review on electrocatalytic CO2 conversion via C–C and C–N coupling

open access: yesCarbon Energy
Electrochemical C–C and C–N coupling reactions with the conversion of abundant and inexpensive small molecules, such as CO2 and nitrogen‐containing species, are considered a promising route for increasing the value of CO2 reduction products.

DDQ in mechanochemical C–N coupling reactions

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2022
2,3-Dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) is a commonly known oxidant. Herein, we report that DDQ can be used to synthesize 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles and quinazolin-4(3H)-ones via the intra- and intermolecular C–N coupling reaction under ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

A Radical FLP Approach to C–C Coupling [PDF]

open access: yesChem, 2020
In the February issue of Cell Reports Physical Science, Melen and co-workers report the reactivity of diaryl-substituted esters with R3P/B(C6F5)3 frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs). Although ester C–O activation occurs for all FLP systems, the use of Mes3P induces single-electron transfer to generate a [Mes3P]⋅+/[C(H)Ar2]⋅ radical ion pair.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Selenophene-containing heterotriacenes by a C–Se coupling/cyclization reaction

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
A new novel family of tricyclic sulfur and/or selenium-containing heterotriacenes 2–4 with an increasing number of selenium (Se) atoms is presented. The heterotriacene derivatives were synthesized in multistep synthetic routes and the crucial cyclization

Olefin Metathesis Reaction in Water and in Air Improved by Supramolecular Additives

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
A range of water-immiscible commercially available Grubbs-type precatalysts can be used in ring-closing olefin metathesis reaction in high yields. The synthetic transformation is possible in pure water under ambient conditions.
