The DEC2‐SCN2A Axis is Essential for the Anticonvulsant Effects of Cannabidiol by Modulating Neuronal Plasticity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies DEC2 as a critical transcriptional repressor of Scn2a that directly binds E‐box motifs in its promoter to regulate neuronal plasticity and epileptogenesis. Functional manipulation of DEC2 alters seizure susceptibility in vivo. Cannabidiol enhances this repression, unveiling a novel DEC2‐SCN2A axis underlying its anticonvulsant ...

New technologies for examining neuronal ensembles in drug addiction and fear [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Correlational data suggest that learned associations are encoded within neuronal ensembles. However, it has been difficult to prove that neuronal ensembles mediate learned behaviours because traditional pharmacological and lesion methods, and even newer ...

To scratch an itch: Establishing a mouse model to determine active brain areas involved in acute histaminergic itch

open access: yesIBRO Reports, 2018
Background: Strategies to efficiently control itch require a deep understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Several areas in the brain involved in itch and scratching responses have been postulated, but the central mechanisms that drive pruritic ...

Posttranscriptional regulation of c-fos mRNA expression

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1987
The transient induction of c-fos mRNA and protein suggests that regulation occurs not only by transcriptional activation but also at the level of turnover of the gene product. Here we present evidence for the rapid turnover of c-fos mRNA and some of the requirements for its specific degradation. The half life of induced mature cytoplasmic c-fos mRNA is

Parasubthalamic Glutamatergic Neurons Coordinate Cardiovascular Homeostasis and Locomotion in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PSTNVglut2 neurons function as a new central baroreflex hub via projections to the NTS, modulating parasympathetic cardiac output to maintain cardiovascular homeostasis while synchronously regulating locomotion. Blood pressure fluctuations negatively correlate with locomotor performance.

Predicting and validating the pathway of Wnt3a-driven suppression of osteoclastogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Wnt signaling plays a major role in bone homeostasis and mechanotransduction, but its role and regulatory mechanism in osteoclast development are not fully understood.

Exosomes From Intestinal Epithelial Cells Promote Hepatic Differentiation of Liver Progenitor Cells in Gut‐Liver‐on‐a‐Chip Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The effects of intestinal epithelial cells and their exosomes on the hepatic differentiation of HPCs are explored in a gut‐liver‐on‐a‐chip. Exosomes from intestinal epithelial cells improve liver fibrosis. Moreover, the miR‐371‐373 cluster in the exosomes may mediate this effect by regulating the hepatic differentiation of HPCs.

Estrogen Regulation of Jun and Fos in MCF-7 Cells

open access: yes, 2013
C-Fos and c-Jun are transcription factors that form the dimer Activator Protein 1 (AP-1) and bind DNA to initiate transcription. C-Fos, c-Jun are targets of the Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase (ERK) in multiple cell types, including MCF-7 breast ...

Dynamics of gene C-Fos activity in paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus of rats at light stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Stress influence (light deprivation and stimulation) on gene c-fos state of early functional activity in subnuclei of paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of hypothalamus of rats in various periods of twenty-four hours (day and night) has been elucidated ...
