Mapping patterns of c-fos expression in the central nervous system after seizure.
Science, 1987A dramatic and specific induction of c-fos was observed in identifiable neuronal populations in vivo after administration of the convulsant Metrazole. This effect was time- and dose-dependent and was abolished by prior treatment with the anticonvulsant ...

c-Fos: a key regulator of osteoclast-macrophage lineage determination and bone remodeling.
Science, 1994Mice lacking the proto-oncogene c-fos develop the bone disease osteopetrosis. Fos mutant mice were found to have a block in the differentiation of bone-resorbing osteoclasts that was intrinsic to hematopoietic cells.

Amygdala kindling and c-fos protein(s)☆
Experimental Neurology, 1988c-fos protein was visualized immunohistochemically in the brains of rats after partial amygdala seizures and generalized amygdala-kindled seizures and in seizure-free amygdala-kindled rats. Four hours following partial amygdala seizures there was a massive induction of c-fos protein in the ipsilateral piriform cortex, entorhinal cortex, and amygdala ...

Lignocaine–induced convulsion does not induce c–fos protein (c–Fos) in rat hippocampus
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 1994Recent studies have shown that proto–oncogene c–fos mRNA is induced in the central nervous system by a variety of stimuli including generalised convulsions. In this study, the expression of c–fos protein (c–Fos) following lignocaine–induced convulsions was examined and compared with that following convulsions induced by non–anesthetic convulsants, such

c-Fos expression during wakefulness and sleep
Neurophysiologie Clinique/Clinical Neurophysiology, 1995We have recently demonstrated that c-fos expression is strongly induced by both spontaneous and forced wakefulness in many brain regions. c-Fos expression was considerably increased in regions involved in the regulation of arousal states, such as the locus coeruleus (noradrenergic neurons) and the medial preoptic area (non-GABAergic neurons).

c-fos antisense RNA blocks expression of c-fos gene in F9 embryonal carcinoma cells
Cell Differentiation and Development, 1988To study the function of proto-oncogene c-fos, we prepared an antisense plasmid that expresses in mammalian cells c-fos antisense RNA which is complementary to the endogenous c-fos mRNA. Upon transfection into undifferentiated F9 EC cells, the antisense plasmid directed constitutive expression of a large amount of c-fos antisense RNA.

It is now generally accepted that the normal cellular homologues of retroviral oncogenes, the proto-oncogenes, may have crucial physiological functions in the regulation of cellular proliferation. This hypothesis is strongly supported by the observation that three proto-oncogenes, c-sis, c-erbB and c-fms are part of the cellular growth factor-receptor ...

Protooncogene c-fos as a Transcription Factor
1990Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the recent advances in the understanding of cellular gene regulation by c-fos—the cellular homolog of the transforming gene (v-fos) of the murine sarcoma viruses FBJ and FBR. The v-fos and c-fos genes are both capable of transforming fibroblasts, although the c-fos gene requires structural alterations.

IGF-I increases C-fos expression in FRTL5 rat thyroid cells by activating the C-fos promoter
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1988We studied the effect of IGF-1 on c-fos mRNA expression in FRTL5 rat thyroid cells. IFG-1, or calf serum, transiently increased c-fos mRNA levels in quiescent FRTL5 cells, with the latter being more potent. This increase was prevented by actinomycin D.

Regulation of c-Fos and NGF1-A by antidepressant treatments
Synapse, 1997The influence of antidepressant treatments on the expression of c-Fos and NGF-1A, two immediate early gene (IEG) transcription factors, was examined. Administration of electroconvulsive seizures (ECS), tranylcypromine, or imipramine, three different classes of antidepressants, increased the expression of c-Fos mRNA and immunoreactivity in rat frontal ...
