Pathogenicity ofC. albicansandC. tropicalis
Medical Mycology, 1962Most strains of C. tropicalis possess a considerable degree of virulence for mice. When compared as a group, the strains of C. tropicalis were not quite as virulent as were the strains of C. albicans studied, and showed very little or no pathogenicity for rabbits. In vivo multiplication rates showed that for both species most of the yeast cell or yeast ...

Storage ofCandida albicans, C. tropicalis and related species in liquid nitrogen
Folia Microbiologica, 1987Storage in liquid nitrogen of a collection of C. albicans, C. tropicalis and related species checked by numerical and classical taxonomy is described. Strains stored for 3 years in liquid nitrogen were thawed and their survival was tested. After adaptation and regeneration, their fermentation and assimilation spectra, production of chlamydospores and ...

Candida spp. have attracted considerable attention as they cause serious human diseases in immunocompromised individuals. The genomes of the pathogenic Candida spp. have been sequenced, but systemic characterizations of their kinomes are yet to be reported.

C. stellatoidea differs from both C. albicans and C. tropicalis in its i) much greater growth differential on minimal and amino acid enriched media and ii) unique inability to grow on minimal medium containing glycerol as carbon source at 37C. The relative responses to amino acid enrichment occur on media containing either fermentative or oxidative ...

AbstractProbioticLactobacillusstrains had been investigated for the potential to protect against infection caused by the major fungal pathogen of human,Candida albicans. Besides antifungal activity, lactobacilli demonstrated a promising inhibitory effect on biofilm formation and filamentation ofC. albicans.

Abstract A microsomal NADPH-cytochrome c reductase from yeast was purified by column chromatography on Phenyl-Sepharose CL-4B, DEAE cellulose, hydroxylapatite and Sephadex G-150 in the presence of sodium cholate and Mulgofen BC-720, a non ionic detergent. On SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, the purified enzyme gives a single band of 76,000 MW.
