Cable robot for non-standard architecture and construction: A dynamic positioning system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In the past few years, cable-driven robots have received some attention by the scientific community and the industry. They have special characteristics that made them very reliable to operate with the level of safeness that is required by different ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

A cable-driven robot for architectural constructions: a visual-guided approach for motion control and path-planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cable-driven robots have received some attention by the scientific community and, recently, by the industry because they can transport hazardous materials with a high level of safeness which is often required by construction sites.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Modeling of a heavy-lift airship carrying a payload by a cable-driven parallel manipulator

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2019
In this article, we present a preliminary analysis of a heavy-lift airship carrying a payload through a cable-driven parallel robot. With unlimited access to isolated locations around the globe, heavy-lift airship enables affordable and safe delivery of ...

Single Actuator with Versatile Controllability of 2-DOF Assistance for Exosuits via a Novel Moving-Gear Mechanism

open access: yesActuators, 2022
Decreasing the system weight while maintaining the assistance performance can help reduce the metabolic penalty in exosuits. Various researchers have proposed a bi-directional cable-driven actuator that can provide two degrees of freedom (2-DOF ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Design and implementation of a multi-degrees-of-freedom cable-driven parallel robot with gripper

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2018
Cable-driven parallel robots comprise driven actuators that allow controlled cables to act in parallel on an end-effector. Such a robotic system has a potentially large reachable workspace, large load capacity, high payload-to-weight ratio, high ...

Modeling and Design of a Spring-loaded, Cable-driven, Wearable Exoskeleton for the Upper Extremity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An approach to the design of wearable exoskeletons on the basis of simulation of the exoskeleton and a human body model is proposed in this paper. The new approach, addressing the problem of physical human-exoskeleton interactions, models and simulates ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...
