CAEV Infection does not Affect Prevalence of Bacterial Mastitis in Goats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 1997
Like other lentiviruses, caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAEV) causes persistent infection. The majority of CAEV-infected goats is clinically healthy. Signs of disease are associated with progressive inflammation in one or more organ or tissue systems such as joints, bursae, brain, spinal cord, lungs, and udder (Bulgin 1990, Dawson 1987). In most

Genotyping Based on the LTR Region of Small Ruminant Lentiviruses from Naturally Infected Sheep and Goats from Mexico

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs) belong to the genus Lentivirus in the Retroviridae family. There are five genotypes (A, B, C, D, and E), where genotypes A and B have a global distribution and genotypes C, D, and E are limited to Europe. The presence of SRLV has been confirmed in Mexico, with genotype B detected in the central region of the country.

Prevalence of Pneumonia in Sheep and Goats Slaughtered at Elfora Bishoftu Export Abattoir, Ethiopia: A Pathological Investigation

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medicine, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Accurate clinical diagnosis of pneumonia, the leading cause of mortality in small ruminants, is difficult and usually requires postmortem examination of the lungs. An active abattoir survey was conducted between November 2017 and April 2018 to estimate the prevalence and characterize the gross and histopathological lesions of pneumonic lungs in 864 ...

Immortalized goat milk epithelial cell lines replicate CAEV at high level [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2001
Primary milk epithelial cells were isolated from CAEV-uninfected goats and three cell lines designated TIGMEC-1, TIGMEC-2 and TIGMEC-3 were established. The three cell lines retained their morphological characteristics of epithelial cells and expressed specific epithelial cytokeratin marker as well as the immortalizing SV40 large T antigen.
