Interaction of the calcium ionophore A.23187 (Calcimycin) with Bacillus cereus and Escherichia coli
Letters in Applied Microbiology, 1993Ionophores isolated from bacterial strains, and especially A.23187, are efficient antibiotics against Gram-positive bacteria and devoid of activity on Gram-negative species. This difference in activity was attributed to the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria which is presumably impermeable to these very hydrophobic compounds. In this context, the

[4‐3H]‐labelling of the calcium ionophore A 23187 (calcimycin)
Journal of Labelled Compounds and Radiopharmaceuticals, 1989Abstract[4‐3H‐labelled]‐A 23187 (or calcimycin) has been obtained as a magnesium salt from the corresponding 4‐bromo derivative using tritiated hydrogen gas in the presence of 10% Pd/C catalyst. The specific radioactivity proved to be 50.6 Ci/mmole (1872.2 GBq/m mole).

Calcimycin is a rare divalent cation specific ionophore antibiotic that has many biochemical and pharmaceutical applications. We have recently cloned and sequenced the Streptomyces chartreusis calcimycin biosynthesis gene cluster as well as identified the genes required for the synthesis of the polyketide backbone of calcimycin. Additional modifying or

Cezomycin, a biosynthetic analogue of calcimycin (A 23187), was studied to evaluate the effect of changes in structural features on the coordination and transport of calcium and magnesium. Its protonation and calcium and magnesium complexation properties were examined at equilibrium in pure methanol using potentiometric and spectrophotometric methods ...

X-14885A is an open-chain carboxylic ionophore, recently isolated from a Streptomyces strain. NMR data have shown that the free acid form adopts a pseudocyclic conformation in chloroform, while in the neutral A 2Mg complex a rotation of the benzoxazole arm is achieved to accommodate the cation in a sandwich system.

The effects of dauricine (Dau) on the release of platelet activating factor (PAF) from mouse peritoneal macrophages stimulated by calcimycin (A-23187) was studied. The method of sodium [3H]acetate incorporating into macrophages to synthesize PAF was set up for the first time.
