Calciphylaxis Post‐Renal Transplantation: Two Cases and a Literature Review [PDF]
Calciphylaxis post‐renal transplant is a life‐threatening vasculopathy with high mortality. We report two cases managed successfully via early histopathological diagnosis and intravenous sodium thiosulfate therapy. Early diagnosis and intervention, along with renal function recovery, positively impact prognosis, highlighting the clinical relevance of ...

Abstract The phenomenon of calciphylaxis is rare, but potentially fatal. It has been recognised for a long time in patients with chronic renal failure with secondary hyperparathyroidism. Disturbed calcium and phosphate metabolism can result in painful necrosis of skin, subcutaneous tissue and acral gangrene.

Calciphylaxis is a form of extra-skeletal calcification characterized by calcium deposits in arterial tunica media and vascular thrombosis, which leads to tissue ischemia including skin ischemia with consequential skin necrosis. Necroses may also develop in the subcutaneous adipose tissue and skeletal muscle. The cause of this disorder remains unknown.

The proposed image reports the case of penile calciphylaxis. Calciphylaxis is a rare obliterative small vessel vasculopathy associated with diabetes mellitus, end-stage renal disease. Penile involvement is even rarer with only 50 cases reported, and agreement on appropriate diagnosis and management is unclear.
