The neurotransmitter calcitonin gene-related peptide shapes an immunosuppressive microenvironment in medullary thyroid cancer

Nature Communications
Neurotransmitters are key modulators in neuro-immune circuits and have been linked to tumor progression. Medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), an aggressive neuroendocrine tumor, expresses neurotransmitter calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), is insensitive

Calcitonin gene-related peptide and hypertension

Peptides, 2005
Capsaicin-sensitive sensory nerves participate in the regulation of cardiovascular functions both in the normal state and the pathophysiology of hypertension through the actions of potent vasodilator neuropeptides, including calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP).

Calcitonin gene-related peptide and migraine

Current Opinion in Neurology, 2015
Migraine is a common, complex disorder of the brain with significant morbidity. As the pathophysiology of the disorder has become better appreciated, the role of neuropeptides has been explored. Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has emerged as a promising therapeutic target.CGRP is widely distributed in the nervous system, particularly at ...

Calcitonin gene-related peptide: Novel neuropeptide

Life Sciences, 1986
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a 37 amino acid peptide encoded in the calcitonin gene. Its expression is dependent on tissue-specific alternative RNA processing: mRNA for CGRP predominates in the brain, whilst calcitonin (CT) mRNA predominates in thyroid C cells.

Differences in pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide and calcitonin gene-related peptide release in the trigeminovascular system

Cephalalgia, 2020
Background Several neurotransmitters are expressed in the neurons of the trigeminal ganglion. One such signalling molecule is the pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide (PACAP).

Calcitonin gene-related peptide levels in tear fluid are elevated in migraine patients compared to healthy controls

Cephalalgia, 2019
Background Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) released from trigeminal nerve fibres indicates trigeminal activation and has a key role in migraine pathophysiology. The trigeminal nerve directly innervates the eye.

Hypersensitivity to calcitonin gene-related peptide in chronic migraine

Cephalalgia, 2020
Objective To investigate if calcitonin gene-related peptide infusion induces migraine-like attacks in chronic migraine patients. Methods Fifty-eight patients with chronic migraine, either with or without headache on the experimental day, were assessed ...

Molecular cloning and expression of equine calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide-I, and calcitonin gene-related peptide-II

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2003
In this study, we describe the cloning and tissue expression of equine calcitonin (CT), calcitonin-gene related peptide (CGRP)-I, and CGRP-II cDNA. We also describe a novel divergent form of CGRP (CGRP-I). Equine CT has greatest homology (>85%) to human, rat and mouse subgroups of calcitonins.
