Dendritic spike induction of postsynaptic cerebellar LTP [PDF]
The architecture of parallel fiber (PF) axons contacting cerebellar Purkinje neurons (PNs) retains spatial information over long distances. PF synapses can trigger local dendritic calcium spikes, but whether and how this calcium signal leads to plastic ...

ER-Mitochondria contact sites : a new regulator of cellular calcium flux comes into play [PDF]
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondria membrane contacts are hotspots for calcium signaling. In this issue, Raturi et al. (2016. J. Cell Biol. http://dx.doi.org/10.1083/jcb.201512077) show that the thioredoxin TMX1 inhibits the calcium pump SERCA2b at ...

Development and in vitro characterization of humanized antibodies for blocking human TRPM4 channel
Transient receptor potential melastatin 4 (TRPM4) channel, a monovalent cation channel, plays a crucial role in various neurological disorders. We previously showed that TRPM4 activity can be blocked by our antibodies: M4P, which targets rat TRPM4 and ...

Detecting stoichiometry of macromolecular complexes in live cells using FRET
Measuring thein vivo stoichiometry of protein-protein interactions is challenging. Here the authors take a FRET-based approach, quantifying stoichiometry based on ratiometric comparison of donor and acceptor fluorescence, and apply their method to report

Involvement of Protein Kinase C and Protein Kinase A in the Enhancement of L-type Calcium Current by GABA\u3csub\u3eB\u3c/sub\u3e Receptor Activation in Neonatal Hippocampus [PDF]
In the early neonatal period activation of GABAB receptors attenuates calcium current through N-type calcium channels while enhancing current through L-type calcium channels in rat hippocampal neurons.

Long-term potentiation through calcium-mediated N-Cadherin interaction is tightly controlled by the three-dimensional architecture of the synapse [PDF]
Poster presentation: Twenty Second Annual Computational Neuroscience Meeting: CNS*2013. Paris, France. 13-18 July 2013. The synaptic cleft is an extracellular domain that is capable of relaying a presynaptically received electrical signal by diffusive ...

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Src Dependent Pancreatic Acinar Injury Can Be Initiated Independent of an Increase in Cytosolic Calcium [PDF]
Several deleterious intra-acinar phenomena are simultaneously triggered on initiating acute pancreatitis. These culminate in acinar injury or inflammatory mediator generation in vitro and parenchymal damage in vivo. Supraphysiologic caerulein is one such

Knowing how proteases recognise preferred substrates facilitates matching proteases to applications. The S1′ pocket of protease EA1 directs cleavage to the N‐terminal side of hydrophobic residues, particularly leucine. The S1′ pocket of thermolysin differs from EA's at only one position (leucine in place of phenylalanine), which decreases cleavage ...
