Mibefradil and Flunarizine, Two T-Type Calcium Channel Inhibitors, Protect Mice against Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Lung Injury

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2020
Recent studies have illuminated that blocking Ca2+ influx into effector cells is an attractive therapeutic strategy for lung injury. We hypothesize that T-type calcium channel may be a potential therapeutic target for acute lung injury (ALI).

Automated optimization of a reduced layer 5 pyramidal cell model based on experimental data. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The construction of compartmental models of neurons involves tuning a set of parameters to make the model neuron behave as realistically as possible.

Calcium Channels and Calcium-Binding Proteins

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2023
Signals of nerve impulses are transmitted to excitatory cells to induce the action of organs via the activation of Ca2+ entry through voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (VGCC), which are classified based on their activation threshold into high- and low-voltage activated channels, expressed specifically for each organ [...]

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Role of the TRPM4 Channel in Cardiovascular Physiology and Pathophysiology

open access: yesCells, 2018
The transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 4 (TRPM4) channel influences calcium homeostasis during many physiological activities such as insulin secretion, immune response, respiratory reaction, and cerebral vasoconstriction. This

Ito channels are octomeric complexes with four subunits of each Kv4.2 and K+ channel-interacting protein 2. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mammalian voltage-gated K+ channels are assemblies of pore-forming alpha-subunits and modulating beta-subunits. To operate correctly, Kv4 alpha-subunits in the heart and central nervous system require recently identified beta-subunits of the neuronal ...

A model of calcium channels

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 2000
We propose a model of calcium channels that can explain most of their observed properties, including the anomalous mole fraction effect and mutation of the glutamate residues. The structure grossly resembles that of the KcsA potassium channel except for the presence of an extracellular vestibule and a shorter selectivity filter containing four ...
