Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

This study reports the upregulation of ELMO1 and GPR141 in human Fuchs' endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) corneal endothelium and ultraviolet A‐induced FECD mice model. A genetic association of an intergenic single nucleotide polymorphism rs918980 present between both genes is observed with FECD in the Indian population.

By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

T2DM is characterized by peripheral blood insulin resistance and progressive pancreatic β‐cell dysfunction. Here, we showed that AQP7, the only aquaglyceroporin protein, regulates autophagy and apoptosis in pancreatic β‐cells. We propose the existence of a positive feedback loop between MAPK signaling and AQP7 that regulates autophagy and apoptosis in ...

Theory and experiment reveal unexpected calcium profiles in one-dimensional systems [PDF]
Calcium is an ubiquitous second messenger that triggers a plethora of key physiological responses. The events are initiated in micro- or nano-sized compartments and determined by the complex interactions with calcium-binding proteins and mechanisms of calcium clearance. Local calcium increases in the vicinity of single channels represent an essentially

Discrete stochastic modeling of calcium channel dynamics [PDF]
We propose a simple discrete stochastic model for calcium dynamics in living cells. Specifically, the calcium concentration distribution is assumed to give rise to a set of probabilities for the opening/closing of channels which release calcium thereby changing those probabilities.

The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Electrodiffusion with calcium-activated potassium channels in dendritic spine [PDF]
We investigate calcium signaling feedback through calcium-activated potassium channels of a dendritic spine by applying the immersed boundary method with electrodiffusion. We simulate the stochastic gating of such ion channels and the resulting spatial distribution of concentration, current, and membrane voltage within the dendritic spine.
