Calcium Mobilization Systems During Neurogenesis
Physiology, 1998Neuroepithelial cells have Ca2+ mobilization systems that are activated by acetylcholine via muscarinic receptors and by extracellular ATP via P2U purinoceptors. The Ca2+ mobilization occurs during neurogenesis and diminishes in parallel with the declining of mitotic activities of the neuroepithelial cells.

In vascular and other smooth muscles, occurrence of intracellular Ca stores which can be mobilized to support contraction may be a general phenomenon. The Ca stores are characterized by the requirement for release by high concentrations of agonists acting on plasma membrane receptors, by the failure of the released Ca2+ to recycle to the store, by the ...

Inositol Trisphosphate and Calcium Mobilization
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1986Calcium-mobilizing agonists act by stimulating the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns4,5P2) to inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate and diacylglycerol (DG). In response to such agonists cells also produce inositol 1,3,4-trisphosphate but this isomer is unlikely to influence calcium mobilization.

Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, 1987
Abstract In a wide variety of cells, activation of certain surface membrane receptors results in a rise in intracellular Ca 2+ due to release of intracellular Ca 2+ stores, and to an increased rate of Ca 2+ entry. James Putney summarizes some current ideas about the mechanisms by which Ca 2+ -mobilizing receptors act.

Calcium accumulation in liver and calcium mobilization in bone of lead-poisoned rats
Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1974Abstract Administration of lead decreased 47 Ca radioactivity in bone, increased the radioactivity in liver and did not alter the radioactivity in blood. Fecal excretion of 47 Ca was increased and urinary excretion was lower after administration of lead. The results demonstrate that lead mobilizes calcium in the bone.

Independent external calcium entry and cellular calcium mobilization in Xenopus oocytes
Cell Calcium, 1994We studied cellular calcium (Ca) mobilization and Ca entry from the medium following injection of various inositol phosphates (IPs) or activation of thyrotropin-releasing hormone receptors (TRH-Rs) in oocytes injected with TRH-R cRNA. We determined the order of potency of various IPs for evoking the rapid depolarizing current in Ca-free medium, which ...

Sphingosine mobilizes intracellular calcium in human neutrophils
Cell Calcium, 1993The effect of sphingosine on the cytosolic free Ca2+ concentrations, [Ca2+]i, of human neutrophils was re-examined using Fura-2 loaded cells. We found that sphingosine induced a dose-dependent elevation of [Ca2+]i. At sphingosine concentrations > or = 10 microM, the rise in [Ca2+]i was biphasic; an initial phase increasing basal [Ca2+]i by 100% was ...

Differentiation of mechanisms for mobilization of calcium in smooth muscle
Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1987Techniques to dissociate different sites or stores important for Ca2+ entry or release in smooth muscle include washouts of 45Ca in cold La3+-substituted solutions, Scatchard-coordinate plots of Ca2+ uptake, substitution of Sr2+ for Ca2+, and both desaturation and rate coefficient plots.

Calcium mobilization in fluoride activated human neutrophils
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985Fluoride ion, at concentrations above 10 mM, was found to elicit a rise in intracellular calcium levels in neutrophils, as monitored by changes in Quin 2 fluorescence intensity. The calcium mobilization response was characterized by a lag period of 4 to 10 min. and a prolonged duration of action (greater than 20 min.).

Stress modulates calcium mobilization in immune cells
Life Sciences, 1991Both acute and chronic restraint stress modulated mitogen-induced increases in cytoplasmic free-calcium concentrations ([Ca2+]i) in mouse spleen cells. Dual-color analysis of lymphocyte subpopulations demonstrated that acute (2 hour) restraint stress suppressed mitogen-stimulated increases in [Ca2+]i in CD4+ T cells, but enhanced [Ca2+]i in CD8+ T ...
