Mobilization and Utilization of Calcium Stores

1974
In the domestic fowl about 100 mg of calcium are resorbed from the shell between the thirteenth day of incubation and hatching (Johnston & Comar, 1955). Before considering the mechanism of absorption in detail it is well to point out that the movement of large quantities of calcium is extremely difficult to achieve if the calcium concentration in vivo ...

Adrenoceptor mobilization of calcium in rat submandibular cells

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1987
The stimulation of adrenoreceptors by epinephrine leads to an alteration in the Ca2+ homeostasis of rat submandibular cells. The relative contributions of alpha- and beta-adrenoreceptors were assessed with specific adrenergic agents. Stimulation of alpha 1-adrenoreceptors resulted in enhanced unidirectional 45Ca2+ fluxes, while such effects following ...

Fluorescent analogs of NAADP with calcium mobilizing activity

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1998
Nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NAADP) mobilizes Ca2+ through a mechanism totally independent of cyclic ADP-ribose or inositol trisphosphate. Fluorescent analogs of NAADP were synthesized in this study to facilitate further characterization of this novel Ca2+ release mechanism.

ATP-induced calcium mobilization in human neutrophils

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 1989
Extracellular ATP at 10 microM increased the concentration of cytoplasmic free Ca2+ ( [Ca2+]i) 3-fold in human neutrophils. The [Ca2+]i was measured by fura-2 fluorescence. The effect was rapid but transient: [Ca2+]i reached a maximum within 10 s and then returned to its resting value after 2-3 min. The rise in [Ca2+]i elicited by ATP was unaffected by

Calcium Mobilization is Required for Spreading in Human Osteoblasts

Calcified Tissue International, 2000
Adhesion-induced changes in intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) were measured in populations of human osteoblasts spreading on bone matrix proteins. In cells spreading on collagen type I, fibronectin, or laminin, average values for [Ca2+]i were found to increase approximately 2x over baseline and then decline.

MOBILIZATION OF LEAD BY CALCIUM VERSENATE AND DIMERCAPTOSUCCINATE IN THE RAT

Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 1998
SUMMARY1. Calcium disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (CaNa2 EDTA) and meso‐2,3‐dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) individually and in permutation‐combination in various doses (0.1,0.2 and 0.4 mmol/kg bodyweight) were investigated for their efficacy to mobilize lead from vital tissues into urine and faeces and to restore the lead‐sensitive biochemical ...

Flow cytometric analysis of intracellular calcium mobilization

1987
Publisher Summary This chapter describes the use of Ca2+-sensitive fluorescent dye technology with the extremely precise technology of flow cytometry for the single-cell analysis of changes in intracellular Ca2+ levels. The model cell involves the antireceptor stimulation of mouse splenic B lymphocytes, although the techniques described are readily ...
