Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

On Artin's braid group and polyconvexity in the calculus of variations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Let Ω ⊂ 2 be a bounded Lipschitz domain and let F : Ω × 2×2 + −→ be a Carathèodory integrand such that F (x, ·) is polyconvex for L2-a.e. x ∈ Ω. Moreover assume that F is bounded from below and satisfies the condition F (x, ξ) ∞ as det ξ 0 for L2-

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Elements of fuzzy variations calculus

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Engineering Research, 2010
The fuzzy numbers, functions, functionals are considered. The fuzzy variational problem for fuzzy functionals with fixed boundaries is defined. An example of solution of Euler equation is given.

Diffeomorphism Invariant Minimization of Functionals with Nonuniform Coercivity

open access: yesMathematics
We consider the minimization of a functional of the calculus of variations, under assumptions that are diffeomorphism invariant. In particular, a nonuniform coercivity condition needs to be considered.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Multibump solutions for an almost periodically forced singular Hamiltonian system

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 1995
existence of so-called multibump homoclinic solutions for a family of singular Hamiltonian systems in $R^2$ which are subjected to almost periodic forcing in time.

Calculus of variations: A differential form approach

open access: yes
We study integrals of the form integral(Omega) f(d omega(1), ..., d omega(m)), where m >= 1 is a given integer, 1 R is a continuous function. We introduce the appropriate notions of convexity, namely vectorial ext.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
