Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

POLARIMETRIC CALIBRATION OF THE SPACEBORNE DIRECTIONAL POLARIMETRIC CAMERA INSTALLED ON THE GF-5 SATELLITE [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2020
The Spaceborne Directional Polarimetric Camera (SDPC) is dedicated to obtain an accurate information of clouds and microphysical properties of aerosol particles via multi-angle, multi-spectral and multi-polarization observations. It images the Earth with

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Space temperature traceability based on near-site transfer of miniature fixed points

open access: yesCommunications Engineering
Long-term remote sensing precision depends on real-time radiation calibration, challenging the stability and accuracy of spaceborne calibrators in harsh space environments.

More Accurate Pinhole Camera Calibration with Imperfect Planar Target

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents a novel approach to camera calibration that improves final accuracy with respect to standard methods using precision planar targets, even if now inaccurate, unmeasured, roughly planar targets can be used.

Calibration

open access: yesJournal of Research of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2019
In the context of chemical metrology, calibration is the process of relating a known quantity of an analyte to the corresponding measured instrumental response through a mathematical relationship. Calibration permits the assignment of analyte levels in unknown samples based on the known levels of the ...

Calibrated fMRI

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2012
Functional magnetic resonance imaging with blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) contrast has had a tremendous influence on human neuroscience in the last twenty years, providing a non-invasive means of mapping human brain function with often exquisite sensitivity and detail. However the BOLD method remains a largely qualitative approach.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
