Caliciviridae Other Than Noroviruses [PDF]

open access: yesViruses, 2019
Besides noroviruses, the Caliciviridae family comprises four other accepted genera: Sapovirus, Lagovirus, Vesivirus, and Nebovirus. There are six new genera proposed: Recovirus, Valovirus, Bavovirus, Nacovirus, Minovirus, and Salovirus. All Caliciviridae

Increase of GII.17 Norovirus Infections During the 2024-2025 Season in Multiple Cities, China. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Med Virol
ABSTRACT A significant numerical increase of genotype GII.17 norovirus‐associated sporadic infections was observed in multiple cities in China during the 2024–2025 season. We collected fecal samples from hospitalized children with acute gastroenteritis from 29 sentinel hospitals nationwide to screen for norovirus.

Phylogenetic Diversity and Geographic Distribution of Atlantic Salmon Calicivirus in Major Salmon Farming Regions. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Dis
ABSTRACT Salovirus is a genus within the family Caliciviridae, which contains a single member species, Salovirus nordlandense, also known as Atlantic salmon calicivirus (ASCV). While previous work has shown that ASCV can replicate in fish cell lines and establish systemic infection in vivo, its exact role in disease remains unclear and very little is ...

From Lake Victoria to the Tap: Antibiotic Resistance and Pathogenic Contamination of Kisumu City Water Supply and Wastewater Network. [PDF]

open access: yesTrop Med Int Health
ABSTRACT Waterborne diseases and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) pose mounting public health threats across sub‐Saharan Africa, particularly in rapidly urbanising regions dependent on untreated or poorly treated surface waters. This study applied shotgun metagenomic sequencing to characterise microbial communities, virulence factors and antibiotic ...

A Novel Class of Norovirus Inhibitors Targeting the Viral Protease with Potent Antiviral Activity In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesViruses, 2021
Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are the most common cause of viral gastroenteritis resulting annually in ~219,000 deaths and a societal cost of ~USD 60 billion, and no antivirals or vaccines are available.

The Complexity of Swine Caliciviruses. A Mini Review on Genomic Diversity, Infection Diagnostics, World Prevalence and Pathogenicity

open access: yesPathogens, 2022
Caliciviruses are single stranded RNA viruses, non-enveloped structurally, that are implicated in the non-bacterial gastroenteritis in various mammal species.

Vesivirus 2117 capsids more closely resemble sapovirus and lagovirus particles than other known vesivirus structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Vesivirus 2117 is an adventitious agent that in 2009, was identified as a contaminant of CHO cells propagated in bioreactors at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant belonging to Genzyme.

Caliciviridae

open access: yesIntervirology, 1980
The caliciviruses, as a proposed family Caliciviridae, have a distinct virion morphology with cup-shaped depressions on a spherical capsid surface. The viruses have single-stranded RNA, which has a molecular weight about 2.6 x 10(6) and is infectious. The RNA is covalently linked to a small protein. A single major polypeptide is found in the capsid.

The role of cellular adhesion molecules in virus attachment and entry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
As obligate intracellular parasites, viruses must traverse the host-cell plasma membrane to initiate infection. This presents a formidable barrier, which they have evolved diverse strategies to overcome.

Discovery of a Novel Class of Norovirus Inhibitors with High Barrier of Resistance

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2021
Human noroviruses (HuNoVs) are the most common cause of viral gastroenteritis resulting in ~219,000 deaths annually and a societal cost of ~USD60 billion. There are no antivirals or vaccines available to treat and/or prevent HuNoV.
