Can Biological Control Agents Reduce Multiple Fungal Infections Causing Decline of Milkwort in Ornamental Nursery?

open access: yesPlants, 2020
This research evaluates biological control agents (BCAs) and fungicide alone and in combination for the management of decline caused by multiple fungi on milkwort (Polygala myrtifolia).

A new species of Calonectria causing leaf blight and cutting rot of three forest tree species in Brazil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Several species of Calonectria cause diseases on a wide range of forest tree species that are propagated either via seedlings or rooted cuttings. In nurseries these fungi cause damping-off, cutting and root rots, stem lesions, and leaf blights.

Novel species of Calonectria associated with Eucalyptus leaf blight in Southeast China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Leaf blight caused by Calonectria spp. is an important disease occurring on Eucalyptus trees grown in plantations of Southeast Asia. Symptoms of leaf blight caused by Calonectria spp.

Whole genome and transcriptome analysis reveal adaptive strategies and pathogenesis of Calonectria pseudoreteaudii to Eucalyptus

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background Leaf blight caused by Calonectria spp. is one of the most destructive diseases to affect Eucalyptus nurseries and plantations. These pathogens mainly attack Eucalyptus, a tree with a diversity of secondary metabolites employed as defense ...

Recovery, pathogenicity and molecular sequencing of Calonectria ilicicola which causes collar rot on Carica papaya in Australia

open access: yes, 2012
Symptoms of collar rot were observed on 3-month-old papaya plants cv. RB1. The pathogen was identified as Calonectria ilicicola based on disease symptoms, fungal morphology, pathogenicity and ITS ...

Pathogenicity studies in avocado with three nectriaceous fungi, Calonectria ilicicola, Gliocladiopsis sp. and Ilyonectria liriodendri

open access: yes, 2012
Calonectria ilicicola, Gliocladiopsis sp. and Ilyonectria liriodendri were isolated from diseased roots of young avocado trees. Pathogenicity studies with seedlings of three avocado cultivars, Velvick, Hass and Reed, demonstrated that Calonectria ...

Integrated Management for the Reduction of Calonectria Infections in Ornamental Nurseries [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2017
Chemical control represents the main effective strategy for managing Calonectria diseases in ornamental nurseries. The occurrence of fungicide-resistant strains and the European Directive on “Sustainable Use of Pesticides” has forced ornamental plant growers to establish effective integrated pest management strategies to control Calonectria infections.

Secondary Metabolites of Calonectria hemileiae Inhibit Hemileia vastatrix Urediniospore Germination: Evidence for Chemical Mediation in a Mycoparasitic Interaction

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 75, Issue 4, July‐August 2026.
Calonectria hemileiae, an antagonist of the coffee leaf rust pathogen Hemileia vastatrix, produces low‐molecular weight secondary metabolites that inhibit urediniospore germination. These metabolites likely mediate interfungal interactions and show potential for the development of biofungicides against coffee leaf rust.
