Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Finite size effects and the order of a phase transition in fragmenting nuclear systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We discuss the implications of finite size effects on the determination of the order of a phase transition which may occur in infinite systems. We introduce a specific model to which we apply different tests.

The “broken escalator” phenomenon: Vestibular dizziness interferes with locomotor adaptation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
BACKGROUND: Although vestibular lesions degrade postural control we do not know the relative contributions of the magnitude of the vestibular loss and subjective vestibular symptoms to locomotor adaptation.

Interpretation and use of caloric testing

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2008
Caloric testing is an otoneurologic evaluation of the status of the vestibular-ocular reflex; it allows an evaluation of each labyrinth separately. The main aspects on the use and interpretation of caloric testing are reviewed.A systematic review of papers published in the past one hundred years on caloric testing was undertaken. The inclusion criteria
