An Approximate Time‐Domain Solution for Recharge Propagation Through Thick Unsaturated Zones

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study presents a time‐domain analytical solution for modelling groundwater recharge through thick unsaturated zones, applied to the Urucuia aquifer in Brazil. The model was calibrated using observed well data, capturing the attenuation of seasonal groundwater level fluctuations with depth.

Timing Matters: Rethinking How we Define the Water Year

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 6, June 2026.
For annual hydrological analyses, the start of the water year must be defined. Using a modelling approach, we identify the day of the year with the smallest variation in simulated catchment storage. The results indicate that these dates often differ from the official start of the water year.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus Under the Lens of Structure: From Prefusion Stabilization to Next‐Generation Immunotherapies

open access: yesiNew Medicine, Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2026.
This illustration integrates key concepts covered in the review, including high‐risk populations, viral structure, host entry factors, the replication cycle, and licensed antibody‐based prevention strategies. ABSTRACT Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a negative‐sense RNA virus belonging to the genus Orthopneumovirus within the family Pneumoviridae.

Neurophysiological correlates of visually induced motion sickness severity: A scoping review of the impact of experimental settings on EEG spectral power

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Medicine, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 152-168, June 2026.
This review synthesizes EEG findings from 28 VIMS studies across four inducing scenarios (abstract cues, virtual videos, vehicle driving, and game scenes) and two display types (HMD and monitor). While Delta/Theta enhancement consistently reflects sensory conflict, Alpha activity shows context dependency: predominantly increasing during passive viewing

Human Coronavirus 229E Uses ORF4/4a to Antagonize the Host Restriction Factor SERINC5

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
The seasonal human coronaviruses 229E and OC43 are common causes of mild respiratory infections but can cause severe disease in vulnerable individuals. Serine incorporator 5 (SERINC5) efficiently inhibits OC43, while hCoV‐229E uses its ORF4/4a accessory proteins to efficiently counteract this restriction by promoting relocalization of SERINC5 to ...

Tick‐Tac‐Foe: When Ticks, Trade, and Zoonotic Pathogens Align in African Wet Meat Markets

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Zoonotic diseases account for over ∼60% of infectious diseases and present a significantly growing fatality threat in Africa. Live and wet markets (LWMs) in Africa function as key economic venues that support human livelihoods through social interaction and trade in food stuff, including meat and other animal‐based products.
