Liver uricase in Camelus dromedarius: purification and properties
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 19891. Uricase (urate: oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.7.3.3) was purified 750-fold from the liver of Camelus dromedarius. 2. The enzyme is a tetramer with a Mr of 100,000, displays high specificity for uric acid with a Km of 12 microM and is inhibited by a selected number of purine derivatives carrying oxygen at the C2 position. 3.

Molecular characterization of a novel Camelus dromedarius papillomavirus
Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2020Papillomaviruses affect both human and non-human hosts. In camels, papillomatosis is caused by Camelus dromedarius papillomavirus type 1 and 2 (CdPV1 and CdPV2, respectively). In late 2018, an outbreak of camelpox occurred in a herd of fattening camels in Egypt. Several animals were found to be co-infected with camelpox and camel papillomaviruses.

Food deprivation and refeeding in the camel (Camelus dromedarius)
American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1992Camels thrive in arid and semiarid areas, although food and water frequently are scarce. However, the mechanisms enabling camels to withstand food deprivation are poorly understood. In this study four female camels were totally deprived of food for 4 days. Their body weight decreased by 6%.

Studies on the digestion of carbohydrates in the camel (Camelus dromedarius)
Tropical Animal Health and Production, 1977Camels with cannulas in the small intestine were used to study the "digestive-absorptive" capacities of the small intestine. Solutions of different carbohydrates were infused through the cannulas and the responses in blood glucose levels were measured. Monosaccharides were readily absorbed from the camel small intestine.

Ultrastructure of Camel (Camelus dromedarius) Spermatozoa
Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia, 1986AbstractSpermatozoa collected from the caudae epididymidis of six camels were examined by phase contrast, scanning electron and transmission electron microscopy. A comparison of the morphology of the camel spermatozoa with that of other domestic animals is presented.

Experimental copper poisoning in the camel (Camelus dromedarius)
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1993Copper sulphate was administered by the oral or intravenous route to five dromedary camels. Two camels (1 and 2) receiving copper sulphate at 200 mg per kg per day by drench died within 8 days and camel 3, receiving 100 mg per kg per day by the same route, was slaughtered on day 172.

Pharmacokinetic considerations in the camel (Camelus dromedarius): A review
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Pharmacology, Toxicology and Endocrinology, 1996In this article the pharmacokinetic profile of several antibacterial, antiparasitic and antiinflammatory agents in camels has been reviewed. The effect of dehydration on the kinetics of these drugs has also been discussed.

Development of the Mesonephros in Camel (Camelus dromedarius)
Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia, 2007SummaryThe study of the development of the mesonephros in the camel (Camelus dromedarius) was carried out on 16 embryos ranging from 0.9 to 8.6 cm crown vertebral rump length (CVRL). At 0.9 cm CVRL, the mesonephros is represented by a narrow strip along the roof of the thoracolumbar part of the vertebral column.

Hump biopsy on large camelids (Camelus dromedarius and Camelus bactrianus)
2013Composed essentially of adipose tissue containing a high proportion of fat, the hump is a particularity of the camel. The collection of hump fat by biopsy is an easy way for monitoring the composition of fat storage or for the follow-up of xenobiotic lipophilic molecules. The method of biopsy is described.

A review of reproduction in the female camel (Camelus dromedarius)
Theriogenology, 1987The Arabian camel (Camelus dromedarius), the one-humped camel, is a primary inhabitant of the northern half of Africa, the Middle East and Pakistan and India. The dromedary is a multipurpose animal used for transportation, the production of milk and meat, as well as such by-products as wool, hair and hides.
