Hepatotoxic activity of Campylobacter jejuni [PDF]

Hepatotoxic factor(s) were isolated from whole-cell lysates of Campylobacter jejuni GIFU 8734 and purified by chromatography. A single intravenous injection of 10 micrograms of this factor reproducibly produced hepatitis in mice, as determined by histology and liver function tests. The hepatic lesions were very similar to those evoked by C.

A Game Changer for Acute Gastroenteritis in the Pediatric Emergency Department: Multiplex Stool PCR Test

Multiplex PCR improves the detection of bacterial gastroenteritis in children compared to stool culture and microscopy. It provides faster results (7.9 h vs. 47.5 h), higher sensitivity (96.2% vs. 77.9%), and better negative predictive value (97.4% vs. 86.9%). Its use reduces unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions and shortens ED stays.
