We developed an impedimetric biosensor by electrochemically oxidizing screen‐printed carbon electrodes, allowing the covalent immobilization of Concanavalin A for selective holotransferrin detection. After the target protein is captured, the device monitors changes in charge–transfer resistance using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

An electrochemical biosensor employing Canavalia ensiformis lectin immobilized on a Prussian Blue‐modified glassy carbon electrode was developed for label‐free glucose detection at submicromolar levels. The integration of lectin biorecognition with the conductive Prussian Blue layer ensured stable and selective signal transduction.

Effects of Jack Bean urease on Insect Blood [PDF]
Research Distinction in BiologyJackbean (Canavalia ensiformis) ureases are entomotoxic to hemipteran insects, an effect partially due to the release of internal peptides by insect's cathepsin- like digestive enzymes.

Bacterial Cellulose Synthase Catalyzes the Formation of Chitin
Recombinant BcsA‐B from Rhodobacter sphaeroides is shown to cleave UDP‐GlcNAc (uridine diphosphate N‐acetylglucosamine), generating chitin with distinct β‐chitin Raman bands. These findings reveal that a cellulose synthase can process an alternative nucleotide sugar, providing biochemical evidence for the co‐synthesis of cellulose and chitin.

The Three-Dimensional Structure of Canavalin from Jack Bean (Canavalia ensiformis) [PDF]
The three-dimensional structure of the vicilin storage protein canavalin, from Canavalia ensiformis, has been determined in a hexagonal crystal by x-ray diffraction methods. The model has been refined at 2.6 A resolution to an R factor of 0.197 with acceptable geometry.
