Development of Canavalia ensiformis in soil contaminated with diesel oil

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2016
Hydrocarbons are the main components of diesel oil and are toxic for the majority of plants. A few plant species, known as phytoremediators, are tolerant of hydrocarbons and can survive the stressful conditions of soils contaminated with diesel oil.

The presence of concanavalin A and canatoxin in Canavalia ensiformis DC tissue culture

Plant Cell Reports, 1993
Isolated embryos, cotyledons and embryos plusa fragment of cotyledon from seeds of Canavalia ensiformis (jack bean) were cultured in vitro. Concanavalin A and canatoxin cross-reactive material were detected by double immunodiffusion tests. Canatoxin was detectable until 30 days in cultures of embryos, embryos plus cotyledons and hypocotyls ...

Cholesterol lowering effect of jackbean (Canavalia ensiformis) seed protein

General Pharmacology: The Vascular System, 1990
1. Feeding jackbean (Canavalia ensiformis) protein to hypercholesterolemic rats considerably lowered cholesterol levels in the experimental animals than when the animals were fed casein (control) diets. 2. The cholesterol levels in various components of test animals fed the Canavalia diet ranged from 53.3 +/- 1.7 to 74.8 +/- 3.4 mg/g (plasma); from 11 ...

Insulin-Binding Canavalin Is Present in Canavalia ensiformis Seed Coat

Protein & Peptide Letters, 2009
An insulin-binding protein was isolated from Canavalia ensiformis seed coat, by using an insulin-Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography, and the protein was identified as canavalin (Canavalia 7S globulin) by mass spectrometry analysis. The major novelty of these data is the acidic nature of this globulin insulin-binding, in contrast to the basic Bg-like ...

Rhizosphere-associated microbiota of Canavalia ensiformis in sulfentrazone bioremediation

International Journal of Phytoremediation
The objective of this study was to determine the efficiency of the microbial rhizosphere (Canavalia ensiformis) in the phytoremediation of sulfentrazone using quantification methods (CO2 evolution, microbial biomass carbon, and metabolic quotient) and identification of bacteria (PCR-DGGE technique).

A concanavalin A-like lectin in the developing seed of Canavalia ensiformis

Phytochemistry, 1986
Abstract During the early stages of seed development (Stage A) in Canavalia ensiformis (jackbean), the presence of an α- d -mannoside specific lectin(s) is shown by hemagglutination assays, although the usual subunit of concanavalin A ( M r 26 000), is not detectable by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

Jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis (L.)D.C.)

1996
Jack bean Canavalia ensiformis(L.)DC. belongs to an immense family, the Leguminosae (Fabaceae), which consists of 500 genera and 15 000 species of both cultivated and wild plants. Members of the Leguminosaeare spread worldwide and are cultivated in all climates. The jack bean consists of both bush and climbing types.

Inducible Formation of Urease in Canavalia ensiformis

Physiologia Plantarum, 1968
AbstractIncrease in urease activity in leaves of Canavdlia ensifomis has been demonstrated. The activity of excised leaves increased by about 100 percent when 1.5 × 10−1M urea was added externally as inducer. Glycine‐1‐14C was used to investigate whether the increase in activity was dependent on de novo protein synthesis.
