Role of bilevel erector spinae with high thoracic block vs conventional unilevel block in analgesia and reduction of pain in axilla in breast cancer surgeries: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesPAIN Reports
. Introduction:. Management of pain associated with breast cancer surgeries is crucial in reducing incidence of postmastectomy pain syndrome. The pain distribution involves the anterior chest wall, axillary area and ipsilateral upper limb.

Metabolic Consequences of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) may have metabolic disruption for multiple reasons that can contribute to adverse long‐term outcomes. RA patients appear to have a higher risk of sarcopenia, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and hypertension.

A frame semantic overview of NLP-based information extraction for cancer-related EHR notes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Objective: There is a lot of information about cancer in Electronic Health Record (EHR) notes that can be useful for biomedical research provided natural language processing (NLP) methods are available to extract and structure this information. In this paper, we present a scoping review of existing clinical NLP literature for cancer.

Can patient-reported measurements of pain be used to improve cancer pain management? A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesBMJ Supportive & Palliative Care, 2016
Purpose Cancer pain is a distressing and complex experience. It is feasible that the systematic collection and feedback of patient-reported outcome measurements (PROMs) relating to pain could enhance cancer pain management.

Bioresorbable and Wireless Rechargeable Implanted Na‐ion Battery for Temporary Medical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐solid‐state bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is developed, composed entirely of bio‐eliminable materials. In vivo and ex vivo tests confirmed harmless disintegration of this implanted battery. Lifetime of the implanted battery can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dissolvable encapsulation layer's thickness.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Mimetics as Osteoinductive Mediators for Bone Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell‐derived nanoghosts (MSC‐NGs) mimic naturally secreted extracellular vesicles (MSC‐EVs) in structure and physicochemical properties but can be synthesized at more translatable yields. As osteogenic agents, MSC‐NGs demonstrate superior outcomes compared to MSC‐EVs.

Short-term effect of acute and repeated urinary bladder inflammation on thigmotactic behaviour in the laboratory rat [v1; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/56e]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2015
Understanding the non-sensory components of the pain experience is crucial to developing effective treatments for pain conditions. Chronic pain is associated with increased incidence of anxio-depressive disorders, and patients often report feelings of ...

Segmentation of Infrared Breast Images Using MultiResUnet Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for women in the U.S. Early detection of breast cancer is key to higher survival rates of breast cancer patients. We are investigating infrared (IR) thermography as a noninvasive adjunct to mammography for breast cancer screening. IR imaging is radiation-free, pain-free, and non-contact.

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.
