Estimation of HPV prevalence in young women in Scotland; monitoring of future vaccine impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background Estimation of pre-immunisation prevalence of HPV and distribution of HPV types is fundamental to understanding the subsequent impact of HPV vaccination.

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.

Efficacy of a bivalent killed whole-cell cholera vaccine over five years: a re-analysis of a cluster-randomized trial

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2018
Background Oral cholera vaccine (OCV) is a feasible tool to prevent or mitigate cholera outbreaks. A better understanding of the vaccine’s efficacy among different age groups and how rapidly its protection wanes could help guide vaccination policy ...

Identification of novel interferon responsive protein partners of human leukocyte antigen A (HLA-A) using cross-linking mass spectrometry (CLMS) approach

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The interferon signalling system elicits a robust cytokine response against a wide range of environmental pathogenic and internal pathological signals, leading to induction of a subset of interferon-induced proteins.

Host genetic factors in hepatitis B infection, liver cancer and vaccination response: a review with a focus on Africa. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The disease burden due to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains significant; 350 million people are infected world-wide, and around half a million deaths each year are due to HBV-related liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Individual-level factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among U.S. patients with cancer

open access: yes, 2022
INTRODUCTION: Vaccine hesitancy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic is a major public health concern in the US. Cancer patients are especially vulnerable to adverse COVID-19 outcomes and require targeted prevention efforts against COVID-19.

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Specifically modified Env immunogens activate B-cell precursors of broadly neutralizing HIV-1 antibodies in transgenic mice

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
The induction of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) is a goal of HIV-1 vaccine research. Here the authors demonstrate the ability of an HIV Env-derived immunogen to bind germline precursors of a class of bNAbs and to activate the corresponding B ...
