Strategic techniques for upgrading bio‐oil from fast pyrolysis: a critical review

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Pyrolysis has been the subject of extensive scientific research due to its potential application to various waste streams and byproducts from different production systems. One of its main products is the liquid fraction known as bio‐oil – a complex material composed of a wide variety of organic molecules and a significant water content.

T-Cell-Specific Deletion of Map3k1 Reveals the Critical Role for Mekk1 and Jnks in Cdkn1b-Dependent Proliferative Expansion

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
MAPK signaling is important for T lymphocyte development, homeostasis, and effector responses. To better understand the role of Mekk1 (encoded by Map3k1) in T cells, we conditionally deleted Map3k1 in LckCre/+ Map3k1f/f mice, and these display larger ...

The Stellar Populations and Structural Properties of Ultra Faint Dwarf Galaxies, Canes Venatici I, Bootes I, Canes Venatici II, and Leo IV [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We take deep images of four ultra faint dwarf (UFD) galaxies, Canes Venatici I (CVn I), Bootes I (Boo I), Canes Venatici II (CVn II), and Leo IV using the Suprime-Cam on the Subaru Telescope. The colour-magitude diagrams (CMDs) extend below the main sequence turn-offs (MSTOs) and yield measurements of the ages of stellar populations.

Online monitored characterization of Phocaeicola vulgatus for organic acid production using anaerobic microtiter plate cultivations

open access: yesBiotechnology Progress, Volume 41, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
Abstract Phocaeicola vulgatus (formerly Bacteroides vulgatus), an anaerobic gut bacterium, produces several organic acids. Research on P. vulgatus is still in its infancy. However, a detailed understanding of P. vulgatus growth and metabolism is essential for its assessment as an organic acid producer.

Phenological Characterization and Production of Biomass from 12 Varieties of Sugar to Feed Cattle

open access: yesAgrisost, 2019
Context: One of the main limiting factors of cattle production in Cuba is linked to low availability of quality pasture in sufficient amounts, during the dry season.

Candidates vs. Noises Estimation for Large Multi-Class Classification Problem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
This paper proposes a method for multi-class classification problems, where the number of classes K is large. The method, referred to as Candidates vs. Noises Estimation (CANE), selects a small subset of candidate classes and samples the remaining classes. We show that CANE is always consistent and computationally efficient.

Pan‐cancer analysis shapes the understanding of cancer biology and medicine

open access: yesCancer Communications, EarlyView.
Abstract Advances in multi‐omics datasets and analytical methods have revolutionized cancer research, offering a comprehensive, pan‐cancer perspective. Pan‐cancer studies identify shared mechanisms and unique traits across different cancer types, which are reshaping diagnostic and treatment strategies.

4‐O‐Methylglucaric Acid Production from Xylan with Uronic Acid Oxidase and Comparison to Glucaric Acid from Glucose

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
Beechwood glucuronoxylan was enzymatically hydrolyzed and the resulting 4‐O‐methylglucuronic acid was oxidized to 4‐O‐methylglucaric acid by uronic acid oxidase with a yield of 95 %. High purity (98 % w/w) 4‐O‐methylglucaric acid was isolated from the reaction mixture and was demonstrated to perform similarly to commercial glucaric acid in detergent ...

Super-linear spreading in local and non-local cane toads equations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
In this paper, we show super-linear propagation in a nonlocal reaction-diffusion-mutation equation modeling the invasion of cane toads in Australia that has attracted attention recently from the mathematical point of view. The population of toads is structured by a phenotypical trait that governs the spatial diffusion.

Combination of Bio‐ and Organometallic Catalysis for the Synthesis of Dioxolanes in Organic Solvents

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 17, Issue 6, March 17, 2025.
In this process the cyclic acetals 4,5‐dipropyl‐1,3‐dioxolane and 4,5‐dibutyl‐1,3‐dioxolane are synthesized by one enzymatic and two organometallic steps in a single organic solvent. Starting from aldehydes, the obtained 2‐hydroxy ketones are further hydrogenated and converted into dioxolanes using H₂ and CO₂, with formic acid or polyoxymethylene as ...
