Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

The Effect Of Cervıcal Headgear On The Cant Of Occlusal Plane

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Orthodontics, 1989
With the purpose of investigating the effect of cervical headgear on the cant of the occlusal plane; 7 males and 13 females as the experimental group, 7 males and 13 females as the control group summing up to a total of 40 individuals were included in ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Investigation of NREL Phase VI wind turbine blade with different winglet configuration for performance augmentation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Sustainable Energy
A wind turbine blade’s winglet is predominantly used to reduce the induced drag generated by the blades and consequently improve the blade’s aerodynamic performance.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Numerical Study of the Effect of Winglets with Multiple Sweep Angles on Wind Turbine Blade Performance

open access: yesEnergies
A numerical study was conducted on winglet designs with multiple sweep angles for improving the performance of horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) blades, and their effect on reducing the wing tip vortex was investigated by CFD analysis.

The effect of using winglets to enhance the performance of swept blades of a horizontal axis wind turbine

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
One of the recent methods to improve the performance of horizontal axis wind turbine is to attach a winglet at the tip of the blade of these turbines.

THE WETTABILITY OF SOLIDS IRON AND COPPER BY LIQUIDS STANNUM, PLUMBUM AND CALCULATION INTERFACIAL ENERGIES

open access: yesКонденсированные среды и межфазные границы, 2019
Object. Until recently, due to the absence of many solid metal experimental values of the surface energy sSV and the temperature coeffi cient Ds D SV / T not possible to bring the computed values of interfacial energy sSL of the same temperature at which

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Force Polytope-Based Cant-Angle Selection for Tilting Hexarotor UAVs

open access: yesCoRR
From a maneuverability perspective, the main advantage of tilting multirotor UAVs lies in the dynamic variability of the feasible executable wrench, which represents a key asset for physical interaction tasks. Accordingly, cant-angle selection should be optimized to ensure high performance while avoiding abrupt variations and preserving real-world ...
