Protein requirements of large yellow croaker Larimichthys crocea depends on protein sources from the perspective of growth performance, digestive and absorptive enzyme activities, intestinal and liver histology

open access: yesAquaculture Reports
The present study aimed to comparatively evaluate the protein requirements of large yellow croaker (initial body weight: 17.03 ± 0.11 g) fed with five dietary protein sources including fish meal (FM), cottonseed protein concentrate (CPC), Clostridium ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

BMI1, stem cell factor acting as novel serum-biomarker for Caucasian and African-American prostate cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Lack of reliable predictive biomarkers is a stumbling block in the management of prostate cancer (CaP). Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) widely used in clinics has several caveats as a CaP biomarker.

A capping domain for LRR protein interaction modules [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1999
Leucine‐rich repeats (LRR) are protein interaction modules which are present in a large number of proteins with diverse functions. We describe here a novel motif (16–19 residues) downstream of the last, incomplete, LRR in a subfamily of LRR proteins. In the U2A’ spliceosomal protein, this motif is folded into a cap that shields the hydrophobic core of ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Structural insights into reptarenavirus cap-snatching machinery.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2017
Cap-snatching was first discovered in influenza virus. Structures of the involved domains of the influenza virus polymerase, namely the endonuclease in the PA subunit and the cap-binding domain in the PB2 subunit, have been solved.

A script to highlight hydrophobicity and charge on protein surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The composition of protein surfaces determines both affinity and specificity of protein-protein interactions. Matching of hydrophobic contacts and charged groups on both sites of the interface are crucial to ensure specificity.

Epigenetic heterogeneity and plasticity in therapy‐induced tumor states through single‐cell multi‐omics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell multi‐omics reveals epigenetic heterogeneity across therapy‐adaptive tumor states, including quiescent/dormant, drug‐tolerant persister, and EMT‐like phenotypes. By linking regulatory features with state‐associated biomarkers, these approaches inform biomarker‐guided therapeutic strategies for evolving tumors.

Arginine methylation as a regulatory ratchet in cancer: From substrate selection to malignant‐state stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Arginine methylation can be viewed as a persistence‐prone post‐translational modification regulated by a network of PRMTs. Competitive and compensatory interactions among PRMTs can redistribute methylation across substrate pools shaped by sequence, structural, spatial, and environmental layers, reinforcing RNA‐processing, chromatin, and signaling ...

A major agonist-regulated capping activity in Dictyostelium is due to the capping protein, cap32/34

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 1996
Stimulation of starved Dictyostelium amoebae with the chemoattractant cAMP produces a rapid increase in actin nucleation activity at 5 seconds which is cotemporal with an increase in actin assembly and a decrease in Ca(2+)-insensitive capping activity [1].
