This book chapter provides a brief analysis of the evolution of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in recent decades. Upon three main principles (uniqueness of markets, Community preference and financial solidarity), the CAP has helped European agriculture to modernize and provide consumers with a diverse and abundant supply.
