Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Entangling capacities of noisy two-qubit Hamiltonians

open access: yes, 2004
We show that intrinsic fluctuations in system control parameters impose limits on the ability of two-qubit (exchange) Hamiltonians to generate entanglement starting from mixed initial states. We find three classes for Gaussian and Laplacian fluctuations.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Au-delà de la « précarité » et de son ambivalence : la contribution de l’approche par les capacités

open access: yesSociologies, 2011
For this author, the articles on the vulnerability debate adopt points of view that are more complementary than antagonistic. In order to bring out the complementarity, he mobilizes two notions elaborated by Amartya Sen: positional objectivity, according

Estimates for capacities and traces of potentials

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1984
It is shown that “isoperimetric” inequalities, relating measures and capacities, hold for all sets in ℝn if they are valid for all balls. As a corollary, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the continuity of some imbeddings of M. Riesz and Bessel

Generic and action-dependent abilities in Spanish ‘Be capable’

open access: yesGlossa, 2018
This paper is concerned with the semantics of Spanish ser capaz ‘be capable’ (henceforth SC). Specifically, it aims to account for the distribution SC displays and the range of meanings it expresses in the realm of abilities, viewed as kinds of ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Alerta volcánica y erupción del volcán Pichincha en Quito (1998-1999)

open access: yesBulletin de l'Institut Français d'Études Andines, 2009
In October 1998, for the first time in the history of the city, a volcanic alert was declared in Quito. The volcano erupted one year later. Crisis analysis demonstrates how the Ecuadorian capital is vulnerable to a volcanic hazard that has been largely ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
