Multilevel switched-capacitor DC-DC converter with reduced capacitor bank

IECON 2010 - 36th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2010
Capacitor-switching operations present in switched-capacitor (magnetic-less) DC-DC converters give rise to spiky capacitor and hence semiconductor devices currents. The magnitudes of these currents and hence semiconductor devices switching losses are proportional to instantaneous capacitor voltage unbalance.

Multi-objective Optimization of Capacitor Bank Considering the Parasitic Parameters of Capacitors

8th Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG 2019), 2019
For the applications where a single capacitor is incapable to meet the needs, different types, behaviors and specifications of capacitors can be packaged as a capacitor bank to fulfill the requirements of the systems. Even though some commercial capacitor bank products have already existed in the market, most of them are the experienced based design ...

Overvoltage protection of capacitor banks

2011 International Symposium on Lightning Protection, 2011
The application and effectiveness of MO surge arresters to capacitor banks is discussed. Principle application rules for different configurations are given. The influence of MO arresters with different ratings on voltage and current at the capacitors and at a re-striking circuit breaker respectively is shown and quantified.

Protection Of Tuned Capacitor Banks

Conference Record of 2007 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference, 2007
The purpose of this paper is to describe several different methods of protection of tuned capacitor banks, and how the relay protection settings for each are determined. Problems with the different schemes are described, and a new protective scheme is proposed.

Continuous monitoring of a capacitor bank

IEEE Instrumentation & Measurement Magazine, 2001
We have developed a prototype system for safety assurance of a capacitor bank by combining application-specific and off-the-shelf surveillance technology for remote monitoring. Traditional surveillance technology passively records facility operations, waiting for an event to trigger a physical audit of the collected information.

Capacitor control relaying for switched capacitor banks

1988. Rural Electric Power Conference, Papers Presented at the 32nd Annual Conference, 1988
The development of an advanced capacitor bank control relay, its measurement techniques, its control parameters, and the applications for which it is suitable are described. The use of the relay in automated distribution systems, typical distribution loss improvements due to an increase in the number of switched capacitor locations, and the need for ...

A primer on capacitor bank protection

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2001
Capacitor banks are applied in power systems to provide reactive power. The reactive power results in lower current in lines upstream of the bank improving system voltage and power factor and reducing line losses. Capacitor banks can be configured as filters for harmonic reduction.

Connection and protection of capacitor banks

Electrical Engineering, 1950
THE FACT that capacitors are built in units of 25 or 15 kilovars for power circuits makes possible variety of groupings of these convenient “building blocks” to form large banks. The arrangement in which the capacitor units are connected in a 3-phase bank and the type of protective arrangement used may influence the cost of the installation; these ...

Shunt Capacitor Bank Protection Methods

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1982
A "Guide for Protection of Shunt Capacitor Banks," ANSI/IEEE Standard C37.99-1980, has been prepared recently by the, Power System Relaying Committee to assist in the effective application of relays for the protection of shunt capacitor banks used in substations.

Fault location in shunt capacitor banks

10th IET International Conference on Developments in Power System Protection (DPSP 2010). Managing the Change, 2010
Shunt capacitor banks (SCBs) are used in the electrical industry for power factor correction and voltage support. Over the years, the purpose of SCBs has not changed, but as new dielectric materials came to market, the fusing practices for these banks changed from externally fused to internally fused, fuseless, and finally to unfused.
