Capacitor control relaying for switched capacitor banks
1988. Rural Electric Power Conference, Papers Presented at the 32nd Annual Conference, 1988The development of an advanced capacitor bank control relay, its measurement techniques, its control parameters, and the applications for which it is suitable are described. The use of the relay in automated distribution systems, typical distribution loss improvements due to an increase in the number of switched capacitor locations, and the need for ...

Influence of Harmonic on the Protections of Capacitor Bank
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013This paper introduces the capacitor bank equipped with overvoltage protection and overcurrent protection. Then with a group of capacitor for reactive power compensation as the research object, this paper analyses the influence of harmonic to the two protection modes when the electromagnetic, static or microcomputer relay are applied.

Reliability Evaluation and Optimization of Capacitor Bank
2018 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2018Capacitors are widely used in power electronic converters to buffer the pulsation power, filter the harmonics and support voltage for stable operation. For these applications where single capacitor can not fulfill the voltage rating or capacitance requirements, capacitor bank is always used as the energy buffer by connecting several capacitors in ...

Control of Overvoltages on Energizing Capacitor Banks
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1973Transient voltage phenomena occurring during the energization of shunt capacitor banks, due to prestrike and temporary interruption in the switching device of inrush currents have been considered. An analysis is made of a generalized capacitance circuit and energization transient voltage pattems are shown for a range of circuit permutations.

The power transformation (extraction) system for capacitor bank storage is practically the same as for chemical storage. It uses a thyristor-based AC/DC convenor and all the relevant devices: AC transformer, reactive power sources, etc. A circuit schematic for a PTS is shown in the chapter.

High Voltage Charging of a Capacitor Bank
IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2008We have demonstrated the feasibility of charging a capacitor bank to a high voltage using an autonomous ultra-compact explosively driven source of prime power. The prime power source is a longitudinally driven shock wave depolarization of a ferroelectric ceramic.

An automatic charging unit for capacitor banks
Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1973The principal design of a charging unit for capacitor banks is given. The charging voltage can be adjusted in a wide range. After charging the capacitor bank its value is held constant. The design of an example with a maximum charging current of 2.8 A, with the charging voltage in the range 45 to 250 V, is described.

Fault location in shunt capacitor banks
10th IET International Conference on Developments in Power System Protection (DPSP 2010). Managing the Change, 2010Shunt capacitor banks (SCBs) are used in the electrical industry for power factor correction and voltage support. Over the years, the purpose of SCBs has not changed, but as new dielectric materials came to market, the fusing practices for these banks changed from externally fused to internally fused, fuseless, and finally to unfused.

A multiplexed switched capacitor filter bank
IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 1980A technique is introduced which allows several integrator capacitors to be multiplexed onto a single operational amplifier. As a result, the op amp can be shared by several switched capacitor filter channels, drastically reducing the number of op amps required for filter banks.
