Institutional environment, innovative entrepreneurial entry and venture capital financing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We analyse the determinants of high growth expectations entrepreneurial entry (HGE) using individual data drawn on working age population, based on the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) surveys for the 1998-2004 period.

Liquid Crystalline Elastomers in Soft Robotics: Assessing Promise and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) are programmable soft materials that undergo large, anisotropic deformation in response to external stimuli. Their molecular alignment encodes directional actuation in a monolithic structure, making them long‐standing candidates for soft robotic systems.

Exigency Politics or New World Order? [PDF]

open access: yes
Since the onset of the current crisis, numerous intergovernmental organizations made declarations and plans, but only national packages were implemented to minimize adverse effects to real (national) economies.

Techno‐Economic Analysis of Polylactic Acid from Corn Stover: Understanding Uncertainty and Variability via Artificial Intelligence Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
This study analyses the uncertainty and variability existing in the economic performance of polylactic acid (PLA) production, via integrating techno‐economic analysis with process models and Monte Carlo simulation enabled by artificial intelligence. The results show that the minimum selling price varies from $2,107 to $3076/t PLA.

Circular RNA PTPN4 Contributes to Blood‐Brain Barrier Disruption during Early Epileptogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Epileptic condition induces CircPTPN4 upregulation, which promotes ECE‐1 expression through competitive sequestration of miR‐145a‐5p. The elevated ECE‐1 catalyzes the ET‐1 production, leading to p38/MAPK pathway activation and subsequent downregulation of tight junction protein expression. This cascade results in increased BBB permeability and enhanced

The Lucas Paradox and the quality of institutions: then and now [PDF]

open access: yes
In the first era of financial globalization (1880-1914), global capital market integration led to substantial net capital movements from rich to poor economies.

Ecologically‐Valid Emotion Signatures Enhance Mood Disorder Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies ecologically‐valid Divergent Emotional Functional Networks (DEFN), derived from dynamic functional connectivity during naturalistic movie watching. The DEFN reliably enhances diagnostic accuracy for mood disorders, including major depressive and bipolar disorders, demonstrating strong reproducibility across demographic factors and

Identification of a phenyl ester covalent inhibitor of caseinolytic protease and analysis of the ClpP1P2 inhibition in mycobacteria

open access: yesmLife
The caseinolytic protease complex ClpP1P2 is crucial for protein homeostasis in mycobacteria and stress response and virulence of the pathogens. Its role as a potential drug target for combating tuberculosis (TB) has just begun to be substantiated in ...

Global Imbalances and the Financial Crisis [PDF]

open access: yes
Did global imbalances cause the financial crisis? A number of influential figures have argued that inflows of foreign capital into the US due to the current account deficit helped to trigger the crisis.

The Core–Shell Conformational Space of Compartmentalized Single‐Chain Nanoparticles by Paramagnetic and Hyperpolarized NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Combinations of integrative NMR spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations reveal the internal structural dynamics of single‐chain nanoparticles. Abstract Single‐chain nanoparticles (SCNPs) are formed by the collapse of individual polymer chains, generating entities comparable to proteins in size, internal structure, and function.
