Biocatalytic esterification of caprylic acid with caprylic alcohol by immobilized lipase on amino-functionalized mesoporous silica

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2012
Abstract Ordered mesoporous silica (MS) materials were prepared using Pluronic P123 (triblock copolymer poly(ethylene glycol)–block–poly(propylene glycol)–block–poly(ethylene glycol)) and poly(ethylene glycol) as dual templates, and functionalized with (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane using the postsynthesis-grafting method.

The isolation of IgG from mammalian sera with the aid of caprylic acid

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1969
Abstract A technique is described for the precipitation of the bulk of the plasma proteins with caprylic (octanoic) acid without affecting IgG, ceruloplasmin, and part of the IgA. The contaminants can be removed from the supernatant solution by batch-adsorption on DEAE-cellulose and pure IgG is obtained in good yield.

Cellular mechanism of caprylic acid-induced growth hormone suppression

Metabolism, 1990
To determine the dynamic secretory pattern of growth hormone (GH) in the presence of free fatty acids (FFA), we studied the effect of caprylic acid on basal and rGRF(1-29)NH2 (GRF)-induced GH secretion in acutely dispersed and perifused rat pituitary cells.

The application of caprylic acid in downstream processing of monoclonal antibodies

Protein Expression and Purification, 2019
Caprylic acid (CA), a naturally occurring eight-carbon fatty acid, has long been used as albumin stabilizer, non-IgG fraction precipitant and bactericidal agent in pharmaceutical industry. The mechanisms through which CA achieves its effects have been correlated with the molecule's protein/lipid binding capacity conferred by its octyl moiety.

Aversion of the cat to dietary medium-chain triglycerides and caprylic acid

Physiology & Behavior, 1985
Young, specific-pathogen-free cats were fed purified diets containing different sources of fat. Food intake was depressed and cats lost weight when the diet contained either hydrogenated coconut oil (HCO) or medium-chain triglycerides (MCT). With an MCT preparation enriched in 8:0 (MCT8), cats would not eat after first tasting the diet.
