pH-Responsive Micelles Based on Caprylic Acid [PDF]

open access: yesLangmuir, 2014
Free fatty acids play a vital role as fuel for cells and in lipid metabolism. During lipid digestion in the gastrointestinal tract, triglycerides are hydrolyzed, resulting in free fatty acid and monoglyceride amphiphilic products. These components, together with bile salts, are responsible for the transport of lipids and poorly water-soluble nutrients ...

In vitro antimicrobial properties of caprylic acid, monocaprylin, and sodium caprylate against Dermatophilus congolensis

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Veterinary Research, 2011
Abstract Objective—To determine antimicrobial effects of caprylic acid and its derivatives, monocaprylin and sodium caprylate, on Dermatophilus congolensis and to determine effects of caprylic acid on the ultrastructure of D congolensis by use of transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Microencapsulation of caprylic acid with different wall materials as phase change material for thermal energy storage [PDF]

open access: yesSolar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 2014
In this study, caprylic acid (octanoic acid) suitable for thermal energy storage applications was microencapsulated with different wall materials, including urea-formaldehyde resin, melamine-formaldehyde resin, urea+melamine-formaldehyde resin ...

Immunoglobulin Purification by Caprylic Acid

2014
At laboratory scale, several methods for the purification of immunoglobulins from plasma or serum are available. However, not all of them are equally applicable when the scale-up to the level of the pharmaceutical industry is intended. In this case, among other factors, it must be taken into account the performance and the cost and quality of the end ...

Preparation of Human Immunoglobulin by Caprylic Acid Precipitation

Preparative Biochemistry, 1984
Caprylic acid was used to precipitate nonimmunoglobulin proteins from human plasma. The crude IgG present in the supernatant (which contained 26-29% of the total protein in terms of absorbance units or 78-87% of IgG by weight) was fractionated on DEAE-cellulose, to yield pure IgG as shown by disc electrophoresis, immunoelectrophoresis and gel ...

Effects of caprylic acid and triacylglycerols of both caprylic and capric acid in rabbits experimentally infected with enteropathogenic Escherichia coli O103

Veterinary Microbiology, 2008
Eighty-eight rabbits weaned at the age of 35 days were divided into four groups. Rabbits of the first two groups were fed a granulated feed, free of antimicrobials. Rabbits of the 3rd and the 4th groups were fed the same diet, supplemented with caprylic acid at 5 g/kg, and with triacylglycerols (TAG) of caprylic and capric acid at 10 g/kg, respectively.

Protein precipitation by caprylic acid: Equilibrium composition data

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 2000
The precipitation equilibria of hen egg-white lysozyme and bovine serum albumin from aqueous solutions by caprylic acid were studied. A thermodynamic equilibrium was obtained, and the compositions of both the precipitate and the aqueous phases were measured to establish phase diagrams for both systems.

Caprylic acid as an aid for the rapid isolation of human ceruloplasmin

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1970
Abstract A simple technique for the isolation of ceruloplasmin from plasma or Fraction III (containing the proteins of Cohn fraction IV 1 ) is described. The majority of proteins are precipitated with caprylic acid and crude ceruloplasmin is obtained by adsorption on DEAE-cellulose (DE 52).

Dielectric investigation of the tetrahydrofuran+caprylic acid system

Physics and Chemistry of Liquids, 2011
Dielectric studies have been carried out for the binary mixture of tetrahydrofuran (THF) with caprylic acid at temperatures 303, 308, 313 and 318 K. The Kirkwood correlation factors, excess permittivity and excess free energy of the mixture were found through dielectric measurements for different concentrations of the system.

Solubility and Heat of Solution of Caprylic Acid in Water

Nature, 1946
IN connexion with experiments on the foaming of aqueous solutions of capillary-active substances, we have determined the solubility of caprylic acid, m.p. 16·5° C, in water over the range 0–90° C.
