A serum and cream moisturization regimen outperforms separate use in sustaining hydration, reducing TEWL, and balancing surface lipids over an 8‐h study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Over 8 h, using a Hyaluronic Acid Serum in combination with a Moisturizing Cream sustained skin hydration more than either product alone, while lowering TEWL and normalizing surface lipids. Volunteers also reported a more immediate and long‐lasting moisturization with the combined regimen. Created in BioRender. Maldonado Lopez, A.

Inactivation of bacterial fish pathogens by medium-chain lipid molecules (caprylic acid, monocaprylin and sodium caprylate)

open access: yesAquaculture Research, 2007
The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of caprylic acid (CA), monocaprylin (MC, monoglyceride ester of CA) and sodium caprylate (SC) on Edwardsiella ictaluri, E. tarda, Streptococcus iniae and Yersinia ruckeri in Mueller Hinton broth (MHB) were investigated.

Alleviation of photoaging‐associated MMP upregulation, prostanoid biosynthesis, and cell cycle arrest with titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and inorganic‐only (ZnO + TiO2) sunscreens

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Inorganic sunscreens containing the UV filters titanium dioxide (TiO2) and/or zinc oxide (ZnO) alleviated various biomarkers of photoaging in human dermal fibroblasts, at a gene and protein level. The study provides novel insights that observe the impact of inorganic photoprotection through the molecular biology of skin.

Advances in organic UV filters for sunscreens over the past decade

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Highlighted organic UV filter frameworks that have been described for sunscreens over the past decade divided into three groups: derivatives of or inspired by approved organic UV filters, natural product‐based compounds, and miscellaneous. Abstract Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major environmental factor in photoaging, erythema, and skin cancer ...

Chemical control strategies for Poa annua in managed turfgrass systems

open access: yesCrop, Forage &Turfgrass Management, Volume 12, Issue 1, June 2026.
Abstract Poa annua L. is a widespread and persistent weed in managed turfgrass systems, exhibiting both annual and short‐lived perennial growth habits. Effective management requires an integrated approach, with chemical herbicides remaining a primary tool.

IRX-2, a Novel Immunotherapeutic, Enhances Functions of Human Dendritic Cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: In a recent phase II clinical trial for HNSCC patients, IRX-2, a cell-derived biologic, promoted T-cell infiltration into the tumor and prolonged overall survival. Mechanisms responsible for these IRX-2-mediated effects are unknown.

Hepatic-portal oleic acid inhibits feeding more potently than hepatic-portal caprylic acid in rats [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiology & Behavior, 2006
In several human and animal studies, medium-chain triglycerides decreased food intake more than did long-chain triglycerides. It is possible that faster uptake and metabolism of medium-chain fatty acids in the liver is responsible for this difference. To test this hypothesis we compared the feeding effects of hepatic portal vein (HPV) infusion of the ...

Bactericidal activity of caprylic acid entrapped in mesoporous silica nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesFood Control, 2015
[EN] Development of nanotechnologies to improve the functionality of natural antimicrobials for food applications has received much attention in recent years. Mesoporous silica particles, such as MCM-41, have been recently proposed as smart delivery devices capable of loading and releasing large amounts of cargo.
