Posterior Capsule Opacification and Wrinkling in a Case of Capsular Bag Distension

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Ophthalmology, 1999
We describe a complication following anterior neodymium: YAG laser capsulotomy in a case of capsular bag distension which was diagnosed 21 months after cataract extraction with phacoemulsification and in-the-bag lens implantation.

Capsular bag distension with an acrylic intraocular lens

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1996
To describe the postoperative capsular bag distension that occurs with in-the-bag implantation of the soft acrylic (AcrySof) intraocular lens (IOL).Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California, Los Angeles.Nine eyes in nine patients had uncomplicated continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis, phacoemulsification, and in-the-bag implantation of the ...

Capsular bag implantation of the hydrogel lens

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1987
Fifty hydrogel lenses were implanted in the capsular bag. Six months after surgery, 96% of eyes had visual acuities of 20/30 and 40% had acuities of 20/15. The age range of patients was 65 to 92 years (mean 76 years). Such visual satisfaction is rarely achieved in this age group and appeared to be related to the low incidence of uveitis and capsular ...

Propionibacterium acnes in capsular bag distension syndrome

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2010
We report a case of capsular bag distension syndrome that developed 6 years after uneventful phacoemulsification with implantation of a foldable, single-piece acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) (AcrySof MA60BM). Slitlamp microscopy revealed a deep anterior chamber with no flare or cells.

Relationship between lens and capsular bag size

Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1998
To measure the size of the lens and the empty capsular bag and evaluate the relationship between them.Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre, Ahmedabad, India. In 46 eye-bank eyes, the equatorial diameter of the lens was measured after a corneoscleral button and the iris were removed. Empty capsular bag diameter was measured after extracapsular cataract

Sutureless fixation of the capsular bag

Modern technologies in ophtalmology
Lens dislocation is one of the major issues in cataract surgery. This condition is caused by progressive weakening of the zonular fibers, as well as the lack of adequate capsular bag support. Nowadays, surgeons increasingly rely on various intracapsular devices to achieve a stable “intraocular lens (IOL)—capsular bag” complex.

[Capsular bag implantation of IOL].

[Zhonghua yan ke za zhi] Chinese journal of ophthalmology, 1991
The authors performed capsular bag implantation of IOL in 57 patients (65 eyes); the visual acuities were 0.5-1.5 in 90.5% of the eyes on follow-up. The actual procedure, the points of note and improvements in technique were described, and the 2 modalities of posterior chamber IOL implantation were commented upon.
